A Very Dear Friend Called Karen

I just like to take some time today to write about this very special person that I so often missed mentioning on my blog. I met Karen of Little Criter Farm in one of the Holland Lop groups that I joined. Karen first posted the topic of table breeding while I was waiting for Holly Hope to accept Skor. I then sent a mail to Karen for details how table breeding works. She was so generous to explain in detail and that started off our friendship over cyberspace.

Karen hangs out with a group of Holland Lop breeders that subscribes to the motto “Fellowship, Friendship and Fun”.They breed for show but for them winning is just a bonus. I believe that is the right way it should be. While having fun showing, one should not get too carried away wanting to win badly.

There was a movie acted by John Candy. I was not sure if it was Cool Runnings or some other movie about a certain sport. If I remember correctly, John Candy cheated to stay on top of his game because the devil of winning got the best of him. I observed that in life, we’re always being caught up with situation like these. We sometimes cannot accept not being on top when we have been there all these while.

Losing some is good to knock us off our comfort zone and start working hard again.

Since life is too short, why not just enjoy the ride? And while we’re enjoying the ride, why not enjoy it with friends with the same interests?

I cherish friendships very much and for now, the best friendships made for me are friendships made in Holland Lops.

Karen, if you’re reading this, just wanted to say that you’re such a precious friend. Thank you so much for being yourself. Love you and God bless!

  1. Thank you very much Timothy for the dedication, I am sure that Cheri and Marianne will appreciate the gesture of mentioning our Friends, Fellowship and fun.

You are a very special friend to me that I enjoy talking to everyday. You take care and give your lovely wife and baby a hug from me.

Timothy – a lovely tribute! Karen is special to us as well. We’ve shared a great many laughs and tears. Maybe some day you can come to convention and share some as well! Take care — keep up the good work and great pics.

    • Thanks for dropping by Cheri. I am so glad to know all of you. I always thought that this world ran out of good people until I met so many wonderful Holland Lop breeders who are so willing in sharing their knowledge with me. I look forward to great long lasting friendship with all of you.

My dream is to attend convention one day and give all of you a big bear hug! Thank you all for your friendship!

  4. Cheri, Marianne and I formed this group we call the 3-F club one day traveling back from an ARBA Convention after check out. When the conversation in the truck turned to why is it again we put ourselves through all of this packing and unpacking etc every year. That is when we got to thinking about it and came up with well most of the time this is the only place that we get to see our out of State Friends to have fun and go out to dinner etc. So that is how the Fun, Friendship and Fellowship started. Since starting this group we have added some members along the way, like Janet Smith, Karen Legino, Patty Miller all from CO, and Joann Sondgrass for OK and Dave and Jenny Silbersdorf from IN. and others that Cheri and Marianne know that I have not met yet do to my work schedule.

People think we are crazy when we say yes we breed to show and try to win, but that is not why we show rabbits. If we win that is great, if we don’t we have had a nice day with our family and friends. I wish more people would consider this when they are showing. Instead of the cut throat attitudes that are out there in many different breeds including the Hollands. I always thank the judge when he is done with his judging even if I didn’t win, and tell the winners congrats. You would be surprised how many people that do not have a rabbit up for BOB or BOS will not even stand up there and watch the judge pick the winners. Well guess I should get off my soap box and get to work.

    • That’s true showmanship to me. I think you gals should create a group on Facebook and whoever that subscribe to this great positive attitude should join the club. Too bad I am so far away, if not I’ll be part of the fun too!

I met this wonderful lady many years ago at a show in Illinois. I had heard her name often (most of it was good…LOL) from friends of mine who used to raise and show Hoilland lops in Ohio (I myself took a shot at raising them but didnt have the backbone for it – too small). when I was sitting outside the show room I saw two women sitting at a table talking, laughing (loudly) and just having one heck of a time…..well if you know me, you would understand how i just barged right in and plopped my behind at that table and began cranking out the small talk. Fell in love with her wit, charm, and family like sarcasm (like my family I mean). there began this cool friendship, she is like my mom now and I love her to death.

Lets not Leave John out of this – that poor man has kept his sanity through all of this and always shows up with her smiling from ear to ear…..

I want to thank you Karen for the M&M’s you gave me at the convention in Indianapolis, that was a huge boost to my ego – and my crotch to say the least….LOL

if anyone wants to hear the story let me know i am not shy by any means and will share with anyone!!!!

the M&M’s have kept us in stitches and have made for some great conversations for quite some time…..

Thank you Karen for just being you…..a warped wacky crazy wonderful woman…with 2 good knees!!!

  6. Stanley

    Lordy
that knee comment came out all wrong…..LOL

  7. May be not his ears lol. But he is lucky I knew what he was talking about lol.

    • I think I may understand what he is referring to. LOL….All the best Stanley…I am not sure how much laugh you’ll get out of this but hope you have enough time to catch your breath…

And thank you so much Karen for enlightening me all about the M&M story. LOL! May I know where the M&Ms’ at? LOL!!!! 😛
