Long Weekend Chillax

Here wishing every Malaysian a Happy Independence Day! We are indeed 52 years old. Hope we get ever wiser and advance full steam ahead!

As for the bunnies, they took turns to frolick and play in the run. They get full days running on weekends. This weekend everyone got to run since it was a long one.

Here are some photos to share. My photos are getting rather boring since it is always in the same position – LOL!

Adventures of Un-4-tunate!

Meet Un-4-tunate, our invincible Holland Lop!

Meet Un-4-tunate, our invincible Holland Lop!

Beep! Beep!

“Mom, this new tracking device is way cool!”, said Luceel

“That’s the last toy mommy can afford. Make sure you use it well and bring it wherever you go so I can track you down easily”, his mom replied.

“I know just the right candidate to use this on”, thought Luceel

WTH!?

WTH!?

“I release you from your bondage Un-4-tunate”, said Luceel to his pet holland lop.

“Wherever you go, I’ll be able to locate you through this screen”, he thought to himself.

Beep!  Beep!  Beep! … … …

“That rascal is heading to the pet store!”, exclaimed Luceel

“Wait a minute, he stopped!”

Road Kill!

Road Kill!

The moral of the story is, NEVER let your bunny loose! They could be dead within minutes. Run over by a car and falling prey to stray animals such as cats and dogs are among the cause of death. Ensure you supervise their playtime and do not leave them unattended!

This is another community service reminder coming from TLR!

Bureaucracy Kills!

If you type in “define: bureaucracy” on your google search bar, the first best definition goes “any organization in which action is obstructed by insistence on unnecessary procedures and red tape“.

I am sure in your lifetime you have at least heard of a certain recording artist being treated nasty, being put through all the red tapes and still not given a recording deal. Ultimately, he or she went on to be one of the greatest recording artist of all time. I am sure situations like these are quite familiar to everyone of us.

This sort of crap happens everywhere and it is just not in the entertainment world. Sometimes it really makes me wonder what good all these bureaucracies will do to a certain industry and most of the time it is only practiced by certain individuals who are usually very incompetent but yet absolute decision making and discretion powers and privileges.

I have always been in the shoes of a consumer and boy do I know very well what “customer is always right” means! I really enjoy being on the consumer side because I have the “power” to bargain. But I occassionally think about how being at the other end of the spectrum feel and operate.

A certain major pet store (or so it seemed) in my opinion have very good customer service. To make a sale, they will go all out and even go the extra miles. In their retail stores, there is a very clear path to where the CASHIER counters are. No bureaucracy or whatsoever. That’s how desperate they want your money.

So being that little curious cat that I am, I randomly made a call to this “major” pet store and pretended that I wanted to “supply” something. Trust me, it really gave me a major heart attack. To get to the person in charge is like a series of CAT and MOUSE games. When the person I was looking for was finally available, she was basically “screened” by the person who picked up the phone. You can imagine a scene out of the medieval war times where the archers are protected by a line of  pawns. It is absolutely stupid.

I am definitely not sure what are all the procedures and protocols are for these stuck up pet stores, but I found it really really unnecessary! Downright outrageous!

The first question they throw you is, “You’re Mr. So & So from?”. The “FROM” is so freaking important that it acts like a freaking password into the ears of the person who you are looking for. If you are unable to answer that question, you’re not allowed access to his/her ears.

I could even hear the person telling this person I was speaking to exactly what to answer me. Isn’t the previous statement super confusing? That’s exactly what it is. Poor thing the messenger! At the end of it, she told me very crudely, her colleague is not interested in speaking to me! HOW RUDE!

The person also told me that it is normal procedure for potential suppliers to submit a proposal. Well, I say to hell with the proposal and all the procedures and protocols. Absolutely time wasting!

The way I look at it, this pet store really has got no vision to expand and it goes to show how much the economic situation is taking a toll on them. So much so that their staff are not even bothered to look into new business development and opportunities. The best part is, they have not even hear me out on what I have to offer!

I really wonder how these businesses are going to grow and thrive when it is filled with so much bureaucracy and red tapes. The best thing is, most of the time this pet store go on consignment! What a freaking joke. I believe they will still remain as a complacent pet store being how it is for another millennium or so.

Lucky thing for me, I am still at the consumer end and well, after that blood puking conversation, I have pledged to myself to give them HELL from now onwards!

What goes around comes around!

God sends Angels Into Our Lives!

I was messing around with the camera today. Always wanted to capture some angelic moments at home but unfortunately do not have a DLSR to work with. And while I was at it, I added Carmel as part of the photo prop and it was just natural watching Beth hugging this beautiful bunny.

Seven Bunnies A Week

I am down to 7 bunnies and will be down to 6 rabbits at the end of September. That is because Muffet will be going to spend her entire life with Truffles.

With 7 bunnies it is so much easier to rotate them in the bunny run. A run a day keeps the problems away! I used to rotate 2 bunnies every evening to have  run in the play pen but now with just 7, I’ll be able to let each one have more time in the playpen. And when the figure goes down to 6, then I’ll have an off day. LOL!

Tonight it is Carmel’s turn to have a run!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Patience is a virtue?

Twenty to Thirty years – that is how long it took some of the best breeders in US to achieve their objective of producing top lops. Where am I? 3 years. Not even half way there. Will I be able to sustain for another 7 years at least? Probably provided that I am successful in getting what I have now bred. My numbers are decreasing. 3 bucks to 4 does out of which only 1 had given me a viable kit thus far.

Will I be able to sustain another 17 years? Most probably not. I am not too sure, it’s too far ahead. It is really tiring and I am not sure if I could really take all the heartaches anymore.

When you go into Holland Lops, the odds are already against you. Viable litters most of the time comes only in 50%. Out of which your entire herd’s death rate stands at approximately 20%. Which means out of 100, 20 would die due to unknown causes. I only have 7 right now. I really do hope that the odds leave me alone for a while, at least.

It is particularly hard being one of the pioneers of raising this breed in Malaysia. Have all my US breeder friends to thank for all the sharing of experiences. I’ve never seen a hobby that could take over your life but as the saying goes, Holland Lop rules!

Indeed they do…

Binky Free My Little Seychel

Thank you all for your prayers. I believe it has been answered one way or another. As I was preparing the pineapple juice, Seychel was already at her last lap of battle. She was very weak and I noticed something that gave me a reason believe that it was not G.I. Stasis.

It was very clear today that Seychel was having difficulty breathing. She was breathing through her mouth as I noticed her tilting her head upwards. I thought that my pineapple juice would be given in vain and I believe by using the syringe it would clog up her breathing passage further. By then she was struggling to sit upright.

I held her in my arms for a couple of minutes and she started to go into convulsion, let out a squek and breath her last.

As many articles have written, fur block or G.I. Stasis is caused by an underlying problem. There was a reason why Seychel wasn’t eating and drinking. There are too many possibilities ranging from respiratory problems to even heart attack. Whatever it is I would like to put a rest to all the speculation and allow her to rest in peace. The only consolation I have is that, at least she was in my arms when she breath her last and no one else had to go through this pain except for me.

Good bye my dear Seychel, I prayed that you will get well and indeed you got much more than I prayed for. Send my regards to Unix, Micro, Latara and all the little TLR bunnies at rainbow bridge. Love you lots!

Through The Rain

So what happens after the thunderstorm? There is a moment of silence. The silence normally breaks with the sound of birds chirping. That is exactly what accepting the facts of life is all about for me.

Today will be the second day that I wonder what awaits me at home. We all do hope Seychel will come around and be well again. I have exhausted all resources and my mental strength in keeping her alive. I will continue to do the same this evening.

I have to remind myself to take pride in saving her (if I am able) but if she decides to give up, there is nothing much I could do. I’ll always remember to stay cheerful in the presence of a sick bunny. They could pick the bad vibes up from us.

Let’s see what happens…
