The True Meaning of Teamwork

HELLO EVERYONE! Have have you all been?

I finally have the time to just sit down and feel like blogging tonight. It really has been a while – more than 2 weeks since my last post. 2011 ARBA Convention was so phenomenal that I could still feel the excitement resonating until today! Truth be told, most of my time was spent with friends and recalling my memory, I do not remember playing with many rabbits there. Mainly because there were so many friends to catch up with and secondly, it is not nice to open the coop doors and touch someone else’ rabbit(s).

Since the convention, many interesting things has happened. One of which I just found out is that my tribute video received an honorary mention in the latest ARBA District 8 newsletter. Thank you Amanda (the webmaster) for the honorary mention. It really means a lot to me.

Today is a happy day for me. Although there are still much work to be done here in Malaysia, I get to see some nice Holland Lops being produced locally. Nothing makes me happier than to know that rabbits from my previous breeding are producing well for others.

On that note, I must mention that I find joy in working with people who are on the same page as me. I like to work with very independent people and those who are very intuitive. When you find such people, you will realize that there is a “quiet understanding” (persefahaman). Without saying a single word, they are able to continue the effort in achieving the goals that you set out to achieve. Their objectives are so entwined and interwoven with yours that you can pass them half of your herd and they will produce exactly what you have in mind or even exceeds your expectations. I am glad to say  that what I just mentioned is not what I wish but it has and is happening right now. The one lesson from all my beloved friends in the USA that I will take to the grave with me is “GENUINE GENEROSITY”. I have written about “PAY IT FORWARD” and in order for you to pay it forward, you must have “GENUINE GENEROSITY” which can be equate to “LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY”. That means to give (and freely give) without expecting anything in return.

I am glad to have a couple of comrades in this hobby here in Malaysia. To be honest, it was very tough to work alone and at the end of 2010, I doubted and prayed really hard that this hobby will not only grow within my own capacity but also I shall be blessed with fellow Malaysians who are on the same direction as me. God has indeed answered my prayers. I have a lot of respect for my comrades because they are very sensible and are able to reason very well. They are able to set apart genuine breeders from those in it for the fast bucks. That is a good thing because it keeps them (or their pockets) safe. Another thing I like about them is that they are able to evaluate the quality of a Holland Lop pretty well based on the SOP, which is a skill they need to continue improving their own rabbits.

Universally, since we are all on the same page, the objective of improving the Holland Lop breed is moving ahead almost in auto-pilot mode. Everyone knows what they want/need to achieve and they know exactly what is to be done to achieve those objectives. That is very different with those who merely put a doe and a buck together without a clue what they are doing. I guess they don’t need to know what they are doing as the only thing they need to tell their (oblivious) customers is the figures after the $ sign (Ka-Ching!). Geez, not everything in life is about ROI (Return On Investment).

I am very grateful for my comrades because I am able to share and sometimes be reminded of certain details that I might have overlooked. The feeling that I can count on someone when I am in need of help is very reassuring. Though I hope the number of these comrades would grow but with just a handful, it is quite sufficient and it does feel like we have a little mini ARBA Convention going on here in Malaysia.

Well, I am no expert in soccer/football because while others are busy watching the EPL, I am busy breeding my rabbits. But I do know that in life, we do have to work together as a team and each one of us play a role in ensuring success. In soccer/football, the field is where the players test out their ability to jive with other players. In this rabbit hobby, our playing field is indeed our character, principles and will power to do what is RIGHT!

A Time, Space and Moment where you need not explain why you like Holland Lops!

The future is looking bright for these 2!

Thank you very much my fellow comrades, you know who you are!

A Bunnyman’s Dream Do Come True

A taste of what's coming soon - photo courtesy of Julie

Around this time last year, I met a special person online. It was also the time of the 2010 ARBA Convention where a Holland Lop won BIS in the Open Show. The special person planted the idea that I should make a special visit to ARBA Convention. And as some of you might know and did follow my quest, I also attempted in the DiGi Youth – Free Your Ideas contest to win some funds but it was unsuccessful.

Little did I know, this little idea soon took a gigantic twist when my special friend started a Facebook group in hope to raise funds to make this idea and dream a reality. Some took the Facebook group as hard begging on my part but the immense support proved that I was LUVED! It feels like my dream has already come true being at the receiving end of such generosity and immense support. Some donated financially while others provided their moral support. I truly appreciate the support no matter what form, shape and sizes they come in.

The funds soon started pouring in from rabbit friends all around the USA. Soon more fund raising ideas were suggested and one in particular was to put a Holland Lop painting by my dad as an auction item. The auction went really well and in total, USD 1108 were raised for my air ticket to Indianapolis! Although, the amount did not cover the entire cost of my flight ticket, it was a mighty BIG help. And the shortage motivated me to work my butt off to save up more money for my DREAM TRIP. And that is the reason why you might have noticed that I have been inactive as far as blog updates is concerned.

For next few days, I will try to update my blog with photos from the 2011 ARBA Convention in Indianapolis. To date, over 23,000 rabbits has been entered in what is known as the MOTHER of all Rabbit Shows of the year.

I ask for your prayers for a safe trip and all of you fellow Malaysian bunny friends will be in my thoughts. I hope my trip will help me increase my knowledge in this hobby so that I can share with all of you.

I do not know what to expect for now but all I know is that, the average Joe in me will have a life long dream fulfilled in just a couple of days away. This is very exciting indeed and I cannot wait to meet all my friends in person. I also look forward to meeting new friends in this journey.

As I make my pilgrimage to the land of Milk & Honey, a place where I do not need to explain why I love rabbits, I would like to again share this video that I have put together in dedication to all my supportive friends in the hobby. Watching the video again, I cannot help but to feel moved and emotional. WHAT A JOURNEY IT HAS BEEN!!!

Thank you all very much for all the immense support! God bless you!

Thunderous Farewell

Today we say goodbye to 2 long time residents here in Meadow Haven. We say farewell to Thunder and Holly Hope. They are going to their retirement homes. It was a difficult decision but was made easy knowing that both of them will be loved. They will not be too far away and I can visit.

Thunder is going to where Barney, his son is. I am sure he will enjoy the rest of his retirement there in a huge bunny mansion fit for the King & Queen Buns! He will also be bonded to 2 other beautiful bunnies and perhaps get to meet 2 goofy “little” French Lops! I feel a little tickled by the fact that I am responsible for increasing the size of the rabbit herd at this family’s home from 2 bunnies to now 6 bunnies – LOL!

Always the cutest and chunkiest buck for me. I like to call him the "Stumps"

Stumps for front feet!

Gonna miss those cheeks!

And as a token of appreciation for Thunder, I receive a little gift in the form of a pair of chopstick rests by Royal Selangor. I have always love the pewter by Royal Selangor and I absolutely love this gift! Thank you very much to the Sun family.

Gorgeous!

Holly Hope will be a familiar face at XOXO Pets Store. She shall be the ambassador of XOXO’s Rabbit Boarding service – LOL! 🙂

Time to enjoy retirement...

Oprah’s Favourite Things Syndrome

I believe I have some sort of illness. The illness in my own definition is called “Oprah’s Favourite Things Syndrome”. If you do not know what I am talking about, please look at the following video:

Did you see the expression on that guy’s face? The expression of pure joy and happiness?

Whenever I go meet my imported Holland Lops at the airport, that’s exactly how my face beams with gladness! The heart pounds and believe me, it is really stone face outside, emotional wreck inside.

That is exactly what my illness is all about. I am addicted to seeing faces like that! Perhaps I am exaggerating or most people are really good at hiding emotions. Whatever it is, I love seeing people happy. Especially when they get to keep a Tru-Luv Holland Lop.

Today was delivery day for Tru-Luv Chiko. A little black buck that has grown into a little handsome 8 weeks old.

A little bomb at 8 weeks old

It really is a defining moment for me to see the happy faces on Chiko’s new family members. It is a feeling that all the fame and prestige in the world will never ever be able to give. The satisfaction is so great that it makes everything else unimportant.

I truly found my calling in the hobby. And I am counting my blessings that so far, I have been so blessed when placing my rabbits into good home. They are SUPER homes! And I realize that sets everything apart. “Quality not Quantity” applies to the people the rabbits go to as well. Looking back at all the bunny friends that I have here locally, I cannot help but to feel truly honoured and grateful because they really are super nice people.

Alright, this is a pretty emotional post for me. I would like to ask permission to be allowed to express myself. Writing is how I express all the positive and negative alike. I would like to release something very negative and let it be bygone. If you are reading this and do not like it, truth is, I don’t care, I am going to write it anyway to heal myself and getting rid of this negativity.

For the past month after cancelling the show that was to be organised by the Show Committee (MROC) that I gathered together, I cannot help but to feel extremely cheated for many reasons as follows:-

1. Reputation put on the line

I was approached by certain someone to work together in organizing the show (which I now do not understand why the urgency & importance). I spearheaded the organizing effort by pulling the right resources and people together. I contacted people that I have known and use my reputation to build the foundation of organizing the show. And when the show was cancelled and because I have placed myself upfront, I took the full impact of the blow from many parties. I am proud to say, I took full responsibility of it. Unfortunately, I felt that I have been “framed” and put on the line through a highly well crafted strategy.

The truth is, RM 10k has been verbally promised for the show. My mistake is to believe the RM 10k exists at that moment of time and started work on organizing the show. Indeed that RM 10k exist but, I am not a risk taker and I call the show off because I have not seen anything concrete about the existence of the RM 10k in black and white. You cannot possibly risk organizing something of such capacity just through word of mouth. And I did not like how the sponsor goes missing or reacted each time progress updates was to be given. And most importantly, I did not want to be lead onto believing the RM 10k exist only to have myself footing all the bills when the show date draws near. So as you can see, I really have got no choice but to call it off in that circumstance.

“The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.” – Sun Tzu

The attempt was definitely to subdue me in terms of getting rid of my reputation in this hobby. It didn’t work at all for me because I mentioned time and time again that this is a hobby for me. They took it as if selling Holland Lops is my business. HELL NO.

And don’t get me wrong as I am not trying to get sympathy but I did a lot of questioning and tried to reason things out. But now, I will just let karma do its job.

2. Doubtful events

There are a few things that gave me reasons to believe that everything has been crafted with precision. I have shared my knowledge while being in the Show organizing team. I shared so much about how the show is to be organized from preparing Club constitution, show catalog and right up to show table design and show venue layout. All the ideas that would make a show work. Hardly a day after I announced that cancellation of the show, the “sponsor” who said that there isn’t enough funds started making plans to proceed with the show with a new team. That made me wonder that I was really being picked to siphon the knowledge and ideas that I have. The funny thing was, there was an attempt to use the show catalog that I have prepared word for word and when I voiced out, only the layout has been changed and colors added. Strange and funny.

And then my blog got spammed by someone in Walnut, California and he mentioned that “someone will pick up the pieces and get the credit”. It got me thinking if it was all been a plan. Seriously, there is no need to scheme to get me off the organizing committee, I am more than willing to make way for anyone else that is willing to take up the responsibility. Just ask and you shall be given.

The best part is, and truth be told, a certain someone that I used to look up to as a person of high integrity has severed our friendship just because I call off the MROC show.

There you have it, I no longer suffer in silence any more. This is the truth and my account of what has happened for the past few months. Yes, I have been suffering in silence without anyone knowing but is it a big deal for me? Perhaps YES prior to today but I can now see that all are nonsense and rubbish. Downright petty, stupid and funny too.

Just RABBITS for crying out loud!

3. Selfishness knows no bounds

We started off thinking that MROC would be approved by ROS mid way while we organize the show but its application was rejected as we all know. To be organizing an event with an unofficial association has certain legal implication. Now, aren’t the people who penalize me for cancelling the show a little selfish and not take into consideration of such implications? Anyone who is involved with an “unregistered association” runs the risk of being penalized. I only acted to safeguard all members in my then committee.

All these vanished today because they are so unimportant to me. My focus is to put a smiling face onto someone who truly appreciates my rabbits. I have the power to share positive feelings to those who really know who I truly am. I have the power to choose to do something good for a fellow human being.

True Love, Through Love….

Will I participate in the ARBA Show?

What good would an ARBA District Representative be if he does not participate in an ARBA Show? I choose to be gracious and professional. Show organizing disputes and show participation are 2 very different things altogether. Participating in the show really means supporting ARBA for me. I will surely give my support to anything ARBA even if it means 1st of the tables for personal reasons. That is not important too. I will be there to hang out with those I call friends and to make new friends.

Me Cry A River…

It is hard and I mean extremely hard to hold back tears, tears of joy. Tonight 8 new Holland Lops join the Tru-Luv Rabbitry herd from very competitive breeders. I just cannot thank my wonderful Holland Lop family enough for being so gracious and generous in sharing their absolutely AMAZING and AWESOME rabbits with me.

I was also being entrusted to help import a new breed into Malaysia – The French Lop!

Doubles the size of the heaviest Holland Lop at 5 months!

A Broken Chestnut buck French Lop at 8 lbs

I wish I could write about all of my generous breeder friends at one go and please note that the order of mention has got no significance here. I hold each and every one of my dearest friends extremely close to my heart.

The first person I want to thank from the bottom of my heart is Momma Cheri. Momma sent the best in her barn to me. A junior doe I named Faith and a senior doe I named Joy (Dovehill’s Ivory). They are my precious (Momma’s gifts are very special – YEP, YEP, YEP, YEP, YEP – borrowed from Land Before Time)! What’s more special about Ivory Joy is that, she is out of The Nature Trail’s line. Never ever have I imagine having a rabbit of TNT lines. My dream finally came true to own one. Momma sent the best junior she had in her barn. I don’t know how to thank you enough! In case you didn’t know, Dovehill Rabbitry is Momma Cheri’s rabbitry name and she won BOS at the 2005 HLRSC Nationals with a Solid Junior Doe. Thank you so much for always keeping me grounded in this hobby momma – Love you tons!

Dovehill's Ivory Joy. Broken Sable Point Doe. The Nature Trail's Rio Grand daughter

Dovehill's Faith. Simply gorgeous!

My big THANK YOU goes to Harley & Sydney Butler of Butler Boot Camp Rabbitry. I believe we have been talking about a trio from BBC to TLR since 2009 and finally it has materialized. I just cannot thank Harley and Sydney enough for being so generous in helping me improve the quality of my herd. Izzie, Aurora and Roscoe are just FANTASTIC! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

BBC's Izzie. Extremely cute little junior doe.

BBC's Roscoe. This little buck is gonna burn the tables.

BBC's Aurora. Just look at the width of the chest!

Huge THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to Josh and Robin Laymon of Laymon’s Rabbitry. One of the most competitive couple in the game in their area and winning consistently. Thank you so much for sending Kindness. I am forever in debt. And you both surprised me with 2 G.C. Legs in the document folder obtained by Kindness! That is super awesome!

Laymon's Kindness. 2 GC Legs! Such an amazing doe!

I must also thank Shari & Sam Albrecht who made this possible. I must thank them for the handsome buck I named Bosco. Such a little hunk and chunk.

Rabbit Hole's Bosco. The bossman!

Last but not least, my love and gratitude to Karen and Dale Bailey of Lop Til You Drop. Never have I imagined or in my wildest dream, I will be owning a LTD bunny. Highly competitive breeder and in the last HLRSC Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, a LTD bunny won Best of Variety – Solid!

LTD's Dimsdale. Coming out of a molt right now. Photo do not do him justice. The feel on this buck is phenomenal!

As you can see, I just do not have the right words to express my feelings right now. I just want to soak myself in happy tears and admire these magnificent creatures called Holland Lops. Each time I think about how it all begin, I cannot believe that I have came so far. Tru-Luv Rabbitry is going to be 5 years old soon. Thus far, I dare say that every year there is improvements thanks to all the support and love by my rabbit family both here in Malaysia and overseas. The encouragement and support has been very overwhelming. Thank you all!

Need I say more? HOLLAND RULESSSSSsssSSSSSssSSSssssssssSSSsss!

I think I am in love with Frenchies!

A Little Love Package

A little package was waiting for me when I reached home today. When I opened it, I was totally dumbfounded. Not too long ago, Momma Cheri commissioned Karen Bailey to make a plate for me with Carmel on it.

Sadly, somewhere last year, I accidentally dropped that plate with Carmel on it and it broke into pieces. I was devastated! My heart shattered along with all the broken pieces. I was able to glue the plate back into one piece but it is never gonna be the same again. 😦

But guess what I got in the little love package today?

Balian rocks!

The resemblance is very intriguing!

Thank you very much Momma and Karen for this wonderful gift! Thank you from the bottom of my heart….

Ruffles Art Studio, San Francisco

I am sure most of you know Lauren Nicholas (LILBun Designs), the artist who created all the cute illustrations of rabbits and animals that graces many wonderful weblogs and websites all around the world.

One of my personal favorites from her collection - taken from LILBun Designs

Lauren just started a new venture in portraits and photography called Ruffles Art Studio. Since I appreciate beautiful artworks, I must say that Lauren is one of the most creative person that is walking on the face of the earth (it shows in her works). Part of the proceeds from her works will also be channeled to animal rescue efforts. I feel that is a really noble cause and should be supported.

If you like art and creative stuff, please feel free to go through what Ruffles Art Studio has got to offer.

Thank You Three Little Ladies Rabbitry

Tru-Luv Rabbitry is being featured on one of the most visited rabbitry weblogs in the rabbit world (in my opinion) – the Three Little Ladies Rabbitry. Who would have thought? I felt that I have came full circle in this hobby because I started off the hobby learning and reading from this weblog. To describe my feeling – Charice sharing the stage with Celine Dion!

Three Little Ladies Rabbitry has also inspired me to write the following blog posts in the past:

1. Taylor: A good role model for all children with PETS

2. Holland Lop Families I Love

As you can see, I do not write that well as compared to Three Little Ladies Rabbitry because I may tend to ramble and grumble a lot. I guess when you are fired up in the hobby, words are the best way to express oneself (for me at least).

I want to thank Rob, Cathie, Taylor, Jessica & Ashleigh for this feature. Through the years I have seen how the three little young ladies grow and mature in the hobby. Your family is truly an inspiration for me. Thank you very much for the friendship.

Reliving 2007 HLRSC Nationals, Prescott Arizona

I got a pleasant surprise and also I must say one of the best Christmas presents that I have received today. I received a package from Carmel’s former owner and breeder. I was dumbfounded when I opened it. As we all know, Carmel is #1 Top Lop 2007. For those who doesn’t know what that means, she is the best Holland Lop in the entire United States (and also the world) in year 2007. And the best part is, she’s here with me right now.

A surprise!

Such a wonderful gift

The award title

Kay was so generous to share her with me and now, she even shared with me the award for Best of Variety (Broken). It is in a form of a plate with an image of a broken patterned Holland Lop etched unto it. I truly feel that I am now reliving the moment with Kay and Laureen back in year 2007. Click here for the 2007 HLRSC Nationals results that clearly shows that Carmel one the title when she was just an BJD (Broken Junior Doe – below 6 months!).

Carmel, she poses naturally all the time

I believe what I love most in this hobby is in the friendships that I made through these wonderful rabbits. They just bring people closer together and there is a lot of sharing going on as well.

This is so Carmel. She is a periscoping machine...

Thank you very much Kay for this wonderful gift. I am sure it is a piece that you hold close to your heart. I appreciate it a lot and I till treasure it for the rest of my life.
