Eclipse & Luna Update: Ear Measurements

It’s been a while since I wrote about Eclipse and Luna. I brought Luna out to get her to pose for me. I liked what I see.

I like the way she poses but something else caught my attention. Her long ears. When I mentioned this to a friend, she said that I should take the measurements of their ears now and again when they turn senior age. Having had seen how Lindsey measured her rabbits’ ears (thanks Lindsey!), I placed a ruler in between their ears and here is the outcome of this exercise. So these are the measurements from crown to the tip of their ears:

1) Eclipse – 8 cm

2) Luna – 8 cm

My curiosity got the best of me so I measured Skor as well:

3) Skor – 9 cm

Skor 9 cm!!!????

Oh my goodness, these kits has got ears almost as long as a full grown adult macho stud Buck!?

They only have got 1 cm buffer left. How am I to keep their ear length at 8 cm?

I leave it up to Mother Nature. I rest my case…

LOL…

Meadow Haven Tamed

I have since started reusing the trays for the cages and I felt the rabbitry is more manageable now. I am able to save up on water bills because old newspaper is used instead of running water down the pipes all the time. I still need to run water down the pipes but I do it less now because the trays will be trapping most of the waste.

I feel less taxing now especially when the number of rabbits in my herd is increasing.

Next, comes daily time allocation for each rabbit. In the computer world, there is something called Time Slicing. That is the same thing I need to do at the moment. I need to time slice 24 hours into sleeping, eating, spending time with the family and spending individual time with 8 bunnies!

The latest headcount in the rabbitry is:

1 ) Skor

2 ) BlueBerry

3 ) Noobie

4 ) Holly Hope

5 ) Eclipse

6 ) Luna

7 ) Charl

8 ) Mo

*NOTE: Love for them does not go in any order as with time slicing, I have also mastered the skill of HEART SLICING. Maybe if my heart is opened up one day, doctors may find millions of compartments in it. LOL!!!

Skor is free ranged!

Skor got his first taste of free range by accident last night. I left him roaming around the wet area & kitchen for the night. I wanted to put him back in his cage but I was too tired and dozed off till this morning.

I woke up remembering that I have totally forgotten to put him back in his cage. Still dazed, I rushed to the kitchen praying that he has not made a mess or chew any of the cabinets there.

I was very pleased with what I saw. He still has got his toilet habits and I could see pee in his old litter tray I left at the corner last night. But there were poo everywhere.

Since he still has got his toilet habits in tact, I have decided to have him live exclusively in the wet area. I will need to find some other place for the rest to have their run. LOL…

SEXY BACK!

Idle Sunday

This will be the single post with the most photos of my herd. I am still trying to cope and figure out what really happened to Latara and I felt that before I loose anymore of them, it is only right for me to take a “family portrait”. None of the rabbits are left out in this photo session.

Just want to thank all who left comments and wishes. Really appreciate it guys & gals.

And to move on, I would like to churn up the little sense of humor that is left in me to present these photos:

While everyone’s asleep:

Guess what Skor’s up to?

Lastly, PEANUT NO MORE! This is little Charl today.

Photo shoot

I got my sister-in-law to capture some nice pictures of Skor today. The rest of the herd are not in good shape to participate in the photo shoot. LOL…

Here are some of my favourites:

Super spring cleaning and photo session

Spend 4 hours this morning cleaning up my little rabbitry. It has been quite a while since I last did a thorough cleaning.

After the tiresome cleanup, I had a little photo shooting session. Judging from the photos, my lovely rabbits look the same from most of the previous photos taken. Was hoping they would be prettier but I believe they already are.

Bandie

Unix

Lumix

The sweetest thing

Lumix is the sweetest male Holland Lop. He carries great genes of the breed. When bred with Unix, they produce beautiful baby bunnies.

When he came to Tru-Luv, he was just a little blurry boy. But he grew up to be a very stout and compact stud.

Bandianna

Bandianna means bandy legged native girl in aboriginal. Bandie is one of the prettiest bunnies in the litter. She still is. Due to her mischievous behavior, she got her right leg broken. Apparently, she jumped into the hay rack and got her leg stuck in between the hay rack. It was a really bad break and the x-ray showed that her bones were badly broken. The broken bones were 2 inches apart. My beloved vet had to bandage her leg using a lightweight cast. After 3 weeks in the cast, her leg is almost back to normal although it looked a little crooked. Bandie is now back to her jumping menace.

Ultimately, I believe to be a responsible breeder one must not only keep the best but also be responsible for all the faults produced. Genetically, Bandie does not have faults but I believe a bunny with a broken leg will not be given its due respect and love. That is the reason I am keeping her unless someone offers to shower her with all the love she deserves.

NOTE: The material used in the bandage was a piece of splinting metal sheet (covered in foam).
