Bye Bye Adina

My favorite solid tort doe has been adopted today by a person whose name also begins with an A. LOL. Hope they find joy in each other’s company.  Each time a bunny goes to a new home, I do not have much to elaborate. I believe it is always a good beginning for each and everyone of them. I just have to wait and see when the new owners get back to me on their progress.

Happy Easter 2008!!!

During Easter, 2 things will always be used to symbolize the occasion – Eggs & Rabbits. If I am not wrong, rabbits is a symbol of abundance and fertility due to the reason that they are prolific breeders. Unfortunately, many living rabbits has been exploited and have suffered due to this joyous occasion. During Easter, rabbit breeders in western countries find that the demand for their rabbits increases. Irresponsible breeders would definitely take advantage of this situation to get rid of some unwanted bunnies whereas most responsible breeders would stop all BUNNIES FOR SALE advertisement on their websites.

I believe the latter would be the best thing to do. Lucky thing in Malaysia Easter isn’t celebrated like how it is in western countries. If not we would see lots of bunnies in shelter waiting to be put to sleep.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE & ALL BUNNIES OF THIS WORLD!

I wanna kick myself to death

I just realized yesterday that I did a stupid blunder. A super careless mistake that I will regret for the rest of my life. I am still frustrated at this very moment with myself. I do not blame anyone but myself for this careless mistake. Remember there was a post entitled “Something’s brewing”? Once I disclose what exactly is brewing then I will let you know this hilarious situation that has happened to me. It is really ironic. I could hear Alanis singing “isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?” clearly at the side of my ears.

I just hope I would not live to regret this mistake. Do pray for me dear rabbit lovers of the world.

Ethical Breeding: 10 Golden Rules

1. The one and only good reason for breeding is to achieve a certain standard specified by a recognized body. In short, it should be for the preservation of best qualities and traits of the rabbit breed.

2. Breeding to meet the market demand is never a good intention/reason. Best interest of the breed is more important than your bank account balance.

3. Keeping a next generation of your current pet should not be your reason to breed because it is not likely that the offspring will turn out to be exactly the same as your current pet. Furthermore, you have to ask yourself if your current pet have all the good qualities desired for the breed.

4. Extensive research has to be undertaken if you intend to be an ethical breeder. This usually last for years and not temporary. Developing a certain breed of rabbit is not a passing fad or craze.

5. Those with intention to be a breeder should always have a mentor and be enthusiastic in their hobby.

6. In order to assess the success of breeding programs, the breeder have the responsibility to keep track of his/her “products” whether show quality or pet quality.

7. Pet quality specimens must be passed on with a no-breeding contract. Spaying and neutering highly desired.

8. Show quality specimens must not be bred if they develop undesirable traits as they grow.

9. A responsible breeder is one who takes back his or her “product” for whatever reason specified by their owner.

10. My personal belief is that rabbits should not be exploited in any way. Many responsible breeders would love to give their “products” as cherished gifts to deserving individuals. This will help the community curb pet-milling and back-yard breeding problems. Since the world is not in such a perfect condition, I usually charge to cover the time and effort I put into this hobby. I normally make a loss having this past time. If people are unwilling to pay the amount I propose, I would encourage them to adopt which is a noble act

The world in silence waits the day…

Whenever I do not have much to write, I always think of this song call O Come Divine Messiah. Quite a common song during the Christmas season. I am not saying that any of my rabbits is my Messiah although I spend most of my free time with them. It is how I illustrate the feeling of looking forward to something hopeful. If you are reading this, you are definitely a rabbit lover. So my question to you is, besides the normal routine with your rabbit, what other things do you look forward to for your little hopper?

Since starting with Hollands, I have had 3 successful litters despite some unnatural deaths. I believe as a breeder, we always look forward for those little pinkies to arrive. From witnessing mommies picking up hay to build nest to having kits curled up in the nest. It makes me look forward to every beginning of the day anxiously to take a peep into those nest boxes to find healthy little “pillsbury” kits. It is true joy.

I am sure the rest of you breeders would agree that this is the ultimate fulfillment in this wonderful hobby. I am especially envious of those countries that have rabbit shows. Although we do not have it here, I am still contented to be able to own show quality rabbits. I do hope that some day we would be able to hold some small shows and slowly grow from there. But before that, we must always remember that shows are not for show offs or to gain recognition of any sort. I believe the true meaning of showing is when we meet people of the same interest. To share the knowledge and together improve on the breed without jealousy of any sort. This would be a healthy competition.

Absorption or Abortion

Just had this very interesting discussion with a fellow bunny owner and my vet on separate occasions. My friend believes that stress can cause a doe to re-absorb her kits in the womb and my vet believe that it is logically impossible. He believes that it would be more of an abortion, or a mummification is also possible but not absorption. How or where can all the bones & body masses disappear?

Anyone has any experience to share?

Thank you so much…

I do not normally get comments on my blog and getting one every now and then makes me really happy. As a reader I am also guilty of not leaving behind comments when I ought to. When you share your life on the cyberspace, one thing that remains as mystery is who actually reads what you post. I am starting to wonder and became in awe of how my easily accessible my blog is and as many people would be in fear of having their identity snatched away through the information of themselves left floating in the cyber-world, I felt that all good things in this world should be shared.

I love sharing my passion with others especially Holland Lops. It is through sharing that we ourselves get to learn and grow. But most of the time, we do not get the affirmation whether our post is a good one or not. Therefore, when someone leaves a comment behind, I felt appreciated because someone actually take the time to read what I wrote.

Although some may not agree with what I do or believe, we are still very closely knit because of something common we share and hold true to our hearts – our rabbits.

And that being said, I just want to thank all those whom have been so faithful in reading (not necessary commenting) this blog and sharing this great hobby with me. May our passion for these beautiful creatures grow as we expand our circle of friends within our local community and in this large cyber-world.

Thank you very much…

Goodbyes : Tru-Luv Kneesa, Choco & Blackie…

It wasn’t difficult for me to release three of them to my relatives. They have been good with pets and it was such a good time to have them take the 3 of them because they have just lost their last hamster not too long ago.

Such a happy & joyous day to see them cuddling the bunnies. It is really fulfilling to be able to share my rabbits with people who truly appreciates. Hope that they will be good bunnies.

Oh darn! No photos…
