Tru-Luv Truffles @ Day 15

I definitely have not forgotten Truffles. I was just waiting for the right opportunity to capture the cutest moments. And I found this little fellow sleeping upside down in the nest box. It is just so tickling to watch them at this stage.

Yummy!

BlueBerry is living at my dining hall and she has got such a big space to roam. I let her out this morning for her usual run. It is nice to see her exploring.

Tru-Luv Truffles: Day 10 & Other stories

In conjunction with receiving my ARBA membership card, I have also got myself an apron for my future grooming session. I must say it was rather kinky to be wearing an apron with bears on it. How I wish they were rabbit prints. Maybe I should get a plain apron and print TLR logo on it. It would be cute!

Anyhow, here’s how I look like wearing it.

I didn’t want to join ARBA at first because I felt it was irrelevant since we do not have shows here and I am not an American Breeder. But I realized that I was breeding imports from America so I should be a member too. Furthermore, I could get more news about the ongoing in US and keep abreast with the latest information in the rabbit world.

So I am happy to be a member of both the HLRSC and ARBA now.

Tru-Luv Truffles: Day 9

Before I start posting photos of Truffles, I just want to spend a little time to share what I have learned about the purpose of breeding (again!). Yeah, I know everyone’s talking about making sure you breed for quality. We must breed to achieve a goal that is to produce rabbits that exceeds the STANDARD OF PERFECTION laid down by ARBA. So what it takes in between the starting line and the ultimate victory?

For the past few weeks, two words kept on coming onto my mind. CULL HARD. Do you know that when the competition gets really serious. Breeders will start to cull their rabbits. Not many are petted out because unlike commercial breeders that sees every rabbit as an opportunity to MAKE PROFIT, a show breeder feels that the more pets he/she sends out, the more diluted the market becomes.

The common methods of culling would be to send rabbits to reptile farms, snake farms or raptor farms. I was not able to accept these methods at first but after thinking it through, I felt that it does give a purpose to raising rabbits. To be honest, I rather have my rabbits humanely put down then to have some airheads experimenting with breeding. What I hate most is the mentality of people thinking that rabbits are profitable. I still cannot see how it is profitable unless costs are cut in the form of feed.

I believe that a good show breeder will always cull their rabbits. It is much better than having abandoned rabbits. Keeping every single pet quality rabbit is not the solution and dumping all of them in a common area is definitely not a good idea as well.

Here’s Truffles:

Tru-Luv Truffles: Day 8

I found myself not writing much these days because I just cannot differentiate between night and day anymore. My chatting friends are mostly Americans and I usually stay up pretty late to have bunny chats or should I say bunny gossips. It is so nice to chat with them especially those that are so willing to share their knowledge with you.

I am so happy to have found so many Holland Lop breeder friends and they have been so supportive. My world is so much brighter having these friends around the globe. At least I do not sound like a mad person talking about rabbits all the time.

I really really love HOLLAND LOPS! I think it is the only true rabbit breed in the world. LOL!

Oops, I am so sorry, this post is suppose to be Truffles’ post. I have only not seen it for a day and she has grown so much. Its fur has thickened. I missed on nice photo of Holly Hope nursing last night because the camera automatically placed the photos into another folder.

Tru-Luv Truffles: Day 7!!! Woohoo 1 week old!!!

Just a blink of an eye, it’s been a week already. This little black and white furball is getting cuter by the days. Today a little small piece of hay went into its nose and made it sneezed and hacked. I got a little scare wondering what happened. After pulling off the the piece of hay, this little fellow cuddled up in my palm.

img_9983img_9985img_9984img_9983I caught photos of Holly Hope nursing the little one. It is no coincidence that I was able to capture this video. Bear in mind rabbits in the wild will run far away from their nests when predators are nearby. Why isn’t Holly Hope running away from me? That’s because she knows me too well. I have been cuddling her the moment she was born.

That is the wonder of individual attention given to the rabbits. They treat you like their family too. She is such a great mommy. You’ll notice that she has been pulling her fur from her thigh and now it is bald. Talking about motherly LOVE, even a small animals such as these can show unconditional love. It is really surprising why mankind with better brains can’t.

Tru-Luv Truffles: Day 5

img_9922

Finally found a name for the broken black kit. Tru-Luv Truffles seemed to fit as I do not know its gender yet. He is now a singleton getting all the milk he wants. Totally spoiled!

I am happy to have another broken black kit at Meadow Haven. Seemed like a specialized color for me. LOL. Maybe I should change the color scheme of this blog to reflect what colors I would like to see in my rabbits. I guess it is much more important to work on overall type then to emphasize on the color.  I am a little dissappointed because I was very close to having chocolates but now it seemed I could only “smell” them.

Picture time:
