Alternative Bunny Fun Activity

I submitted a post entitled “Rabbit Agility” 2 days ago and some of you may have taken special interest in it. Since we do not have rabbit shows in Malaysia, I thought maybe we can all enjoy our rabbits in a different way. I am sure even a mixed breed can go through those obstacles without needed to produce a pedigree.

But first, I need to get the measurements for the obstacles before I start constructing one to train one of my rabbits. I think Luna would be a great candidate for this because she has been acting really shy these days and I need more interaction with her.

Will start with one obstacle this evening (construction on the way). LOL! I shall post a photo of the DIY training obstacle once it is done.

I am sure this new activity will bring more benefit to both rabbit and owner. Good exercise for rabbit, great bonding opportunity for owner. Time for some ALTERNATIVE BUNNY FUN!

UPDATE: I just finish constructing the DIY obstacle/jump. Presenting the first DIY Bunny Jump in TLR (drum roll)….

Training starts tomorrow (I am too tired now). LOL…

Owh, i can see u aredi started DIY the Bunny Jump. Great! Training bunnies to jump. And thanx for sharing..

I will start my bunny training session this weekend too.. (weekday i’ll be too bz and tired). But i will start with running from one end to one end. I found a suitable place to train them, a kid playground – a long (almost 10metres long) bridge built by metal ramp, and the bridge is 2ft higher from the ground. It helps to maintain the bunny’s focus. Or else they’ll straying around and ignore the jump. A year ago, i’ve trained my previous bunny, Elnino to run from one end to another end on this bridge. I takes time, but it was pretty successful.

For the first month, i left him on the brigde by himself while i was jogging nearby. He sniffed here and there to adapt to the environment. The next few weeks, he started running freely on the bridge.

The second month, i put him at the end of the bridge and motivated him to move his butt by clapping my hand and following him from back.

The third month, i only had to leave him at one end, and waited at the other end. (I’ll share some video of this training session in my blog later. Not so soon, too bz lately 😛 ) But unfortunately, a few weeks later he was suffered from teeth problem, jaw abscess and some health condition, so we couldn’t took him to the playground anymore..

I hope i’ll find a same potential from my 9 bunnies.. My hope is Achilles since he is still young and a good jumper compare to the others. He jumped on top of Daddy’s cage (2.5ft from the ground) at the age of 4weeks old to steal some chopped alfalfa i stored on Daddy’s cage 😛

  2. The next thing I need is a leash. I hope the lop ears are not too heavy for them to carry while attempting jumps. LOL…

  3. leash? yeah, u must let them get use to it the collar first.. or else they’ll feel uncomfortable. Is collar safe to be use on bunny?

  4. yes, you need a leash/lead and HARNESS. Not a collar. Collar will choke the poor thing. Harness is like a vest around the rabbit’s body. I don’t think i’ll give them free range in the park so harness and leash is the best option.
