3 Juniors & 1 Senior

I finally had the time to chillax this morning and how else can I spend my time other than snapping some nice photos of the bunnies. The “TumbleTorts” are now exactly 3 months 5 days. That makes them pre-junior age. Sibylla is 6 months and 14 days and that makes her a senior.

Barney spotting a V on his forehead

Barney again, I believe this is what they call having bones to burn! LOL!

Fred - Just look at his cheeks inherited from Thunder. Love em!

Tru-Luv Fred. Sorry, not for sale - LOL!

Tru-Luv Wilma. She's in a superb mood today. Posing naturally for me.

A little more serious pose now. Love the bone and I hope she grow into those long ears.

Sibylla at 6 months. What a cutie...

Sibylla has a certain look inherited from her Dam's line and I hope to work on that. Hopefully steer the next generation towards massive heads.

It is amazing how the quality of rabbits can be improved tremendously with just one generation when you breed good rabbits from superb lines. If all breeders realize this fact, there will be less abandoned pets out there. Unfortunately, quality is not in the minds of many but quantity is. Quantity equates to more “$$$$” for most. As a dear friend told me recently that the world is changing, there is a wave of change coming as far as this is concerned, beware backyard breeders of all kinds!

On another hand, many people told me that my rabbits look huge in pictures. So to put everything in perspective, here’s a little measurement I’ve done and the photo below illustrates the actual size of Tru-Luv Fred.

8 inches x 8 inches

Candid Shots

I went through the photo collections and found that I have missed out some shots that I like. Here’s a few photos of the bunnies to brighten up the blog.

Happy 2nd Birthday Holly Hope!

Come every 17th April, a flashback brings me back to that faithful day when this little cute doe came to me in the midst of all adversity. Her survival was truly a great labor of love. Such a tiny little babe all alone in this world. After 4 litters and 4 beautiful kits in Truffles, Balian, Sibylla and Knee-Yo, she has indeed came a long way.

I too can’t believe that is has been 2 years now. Holly Hope holds the future of chocolate babies in the TLR herd. If I want to continue with working with chocolate Hollands, I’ll have to get some nice chocolate carriers from her. We’ll see how it goes and if it is all meant to be, it will happen.

Till whatever happens, do happen, Happy Birthday Holly Hope!

In The Midst Of Black & White

Clark says, "Bonjour"

Carmel, my all time favorite doe

Haley in her best behavior!

Sibylla proving to me again that it is very difficult to capture photos of black rabbits. I just can't get it bright enough to see her eyes. Darn!

Massive Thunder!

Holly Hope looking good despite going through a major molt

Java (Brown Sugar) acting like a puppy!

Little Barney was the last rabbit I manage to capture photos of before my camera ran out of batts!

Little Fred has good bones. The ears are expanding but I can assure you that he does not LIE...

Little Wilma is definitely a normal. I am looking forward that she'll be a good brood doe.

I think Little Betty should stay here a little longer because she's different each time I take a good look at her. LOL!

Spring & Easter is upon us!

With Easter just less than 2 weeks away, I am thinking about the many rabbits that will be made pets. Some will have an everlasting home while many more will suffer abandonment if not death. This is the issue that many ethical breeders are thinking about. Some may even refuse to sell rabbits during this period of time. The cause of this is definitely consumerism and how marketing has turned tradition into a multimillion dollar business. The story is always the same, starting off with ignorant parents getting a little innocent pet for their children that soon loses interest in their new found pet.

We all know that rabbit is just a symbol of fertility and is always used to signify life due to its prolific breeding nature. Rabbits are also used to denote the dawn of the Spring season where they can be found in abundance hopping around in the meadows.

I can’t say the same for us living here in Malaysia. Though we have flowers blooming all year round, I don’t consider that we’re having Spring all year round because of how warm the temperature is. Though we do not share the physical Spring with our friends in countries with 4 seasons, we do share a common celebration in Easter.

Nonetheless, Spring & Easter is a season to celebrate the abundance of LIFE.

Someone's up to no good!

Tru-Luv Betty & Tru-Luv Wilma

I have a feeling that most people are already bored with photos of my rabbits posing in certain poses repeated over and over again. I do not have any better photos to share because Holland Lops are basically what we call an upright breed. The Holland Lops generally do not crouch like the other breeds do.

Little has been written about the 2 girls in the litter. Tru-Luv Wilma is definitely the dark horse of the litter. She was the smallest to begin with and I thought she’s a runt. But her growth rate is surprising me. Tru-Luv Betty on the other hand was the doe I had my eyes on but as of late, she’s falling behind Wilma.

Either way, both of them have really nice thick front legs.

These 4 need a lot more time to grow but they are already very different at 8 weeks. First time I see certain traits that I have not seen before thus far with rabbits this age.

Happy Chinese New Year 2010 Everyone!

I believe that I finally have something long to write and with loads of photos. Since it is a joyous occasion, I would like to spend some extra time posting a long one. This is my birthday treat to everyone!

First up, I am sure all of you remember this post and will definitely remember this photo:

I am glad to announce that after almost 5 months and 2 litter of babies, THUNDER IS BACK!

Ohh La La!

A little more and he'll be complete!

Isn't he CUTE?

And I wonder how many of the little torts would be like him. Either way, I am pretty sure they will be good stuff!

They just can't stop moving!

Sibylla is growing up pretty too. Right now she has a little “drain” in the middle of her head where the white patch is. There is a huge crater on top of her head in between the ear cartilages.

Can't wait for her to finish her molt

Since I setup my backdrop near where the FurryButts are, I just can’t resist the temptation to snap a few photos of them too. First up was Buttons. She is so huge that she practically took up the entire platform. She is approximately 4x Sibylla’s size. If she gets any bigger, she can pass as a Flemish Giant. She is just so nice to cuddle with. So much meat!

And she can pose too!

Bailey on the other hand is a very shy boy. I think he misses Hans a lot and part of his confidence seemed to have faded away. I take time to handle him everyday for at least 10 minutes but there isn’t much improvements. He loves his little box very much.

Shy guy

Then we have little Yohji boy. It seemed like yesterday when Yohji was born. It was a very cold rainy morning. Unix had her little of 6, let me recall their names Yohji, Bandie, Adinna, Floppie, Mirrhi & Kiki! Their father was Lumix. It was Unix’ 1st litter and all of them survived.

Unix

Lumix

It was my first attempt to develop the Holland Lops using the local lop ears and I must say looking at Yohji, I was pretty close. He has nice crown and has decent bone on him. He could easily pass off as a normal or brood buck.

Yohji the vain pot!

Another cute shot of him

I should have added some mandarin oranges as props but I believe Buttons and Yohji is “orangy” enough for such a joyous occasion.

Here wishing everyone A Happy Chinese New Year, Gong Xi Fa Cai and travel safe throughout this festive season!

Superstars!

I don’t know why I have chosen this title but Superstar by Luther Vandross seemed to be one of my favorite songs. Anyway, it is very early in the morning right now and the real reason is that I just can’t think straight let alone come up with a good title for this post.

Tried capturing photos of little Knee-Yo this evening. Trust me when I say it was the most excruciating photo session ever! My camera just can’t register the black object in him. Poor me and poor him. But thanks to some pointers from a dear friend, I was able to capture a few decent photos of him. Didn’t I tell you that there is perfection in the midst of imperfection? This is so true when Knee-Yo’s blind white eye was the only contrast my camera could capture. Thus, these photos are much clearer.

Do you believe me now how difficult it is to capture a black bunny?

Could be better...

Heli"chopter" ear...

Love this cutie...

I also capture some photos of Sibylla who needs to get her head puffed up with fur.

Acting cute!

Looking more like daddy...

Could be better with higher head mount

Java a.k.a. Brown Sugar was cam-whoring for me too. I can’t resist so I snapped some of her too…

Give me a little pat on the head will ya?
