Chestnuts Visit!

Today TLR is very honored to have a very special couple visiting and taking photographs of the rabbits. As I have mentioned many times before, friends are the most important part of this hobby and along the way, I must say that I do not have many friends in this hobby but those that I have the privilege to befriends with are very special to me. I really appreciate the CHESTNUTS dropping by Meadow Haven. I do hope they both enjoy their short stay here (wasn’t that short actually). Love the chat. If you like what you see, please visit their site and hire them at http://www.chestnutpictures.com/. I highly recommend them to everyone! Although I watermarked the photos with TLR, they are the rightful owner of these photos and due credit must be given to them.

Thank you Chestnuts and I am sure my dear readers will be very happy to see these beautiful photos!

But there is a little bit more for this wonderful doe. She’s AMAZING! Adesh and Shahfiq had fun capturing her on stills. Take a look at all the poses that she could come out with. Absolutely adorable!

A Future Without Love?

First of all, please note that this blog post is not an intention to diss anyone especially the Asthmatics. I really do wish that there is no such thing as Asthma in this world and this post will tell you why. Before I forget in the midst of my ramblings, I just wanted to highlight that a friend of mine needs help in getting 7 rabbits adopted in Penang. Please feel free to get more information over at her blog http://thefluffies.wordpress.com.  It must be a very tough decision for Nico and I hope good people will come forward to help provide these beautiful bunnies a good home.

I had a good chat with my GP this morning regarding the condition called Asthma. Prior to this, I understand that most Asthma attacks are forms of allergy reaction. In order to get allergy reactions, one must be exposed to the allergens, that are agents that causes allergies. The Dr. told me that there is a book containing a list of allergens and it is approximately 400 pages thick. But the top 3 allergens that atopic individuals are reactive to are:

1) Dustmites

2) Dust

3) Fur

So what do you do halfway having a pet at home and found out that you are allergic to it? The Dr. instructs to get rid of the pet. In my heart I cried, “Holy CRAP! HELL NoooOOOOOOooooOOoooo!”. That is not the worst part of it. The worst part of it is that, Asthma is a highly hereditary condition. If one of the spouses has got this condition, 100% their children will inherit it. DOUBLE LOAD OF CRAP! Do we cull humans for Asthma? You wish!

So far, I am glad that I am 100% allergy to Dust & Guinea Pigs. And I hope that I do not develop allergy to Rabbits. For now, what I needed to do is that, I need to consume a tablet of antihistamine and cover my nose/mouth with damp cloth whenever I need to expose myself to dust. That is why you will always catch me looking like a terrorist while cleaning my house.

Now, coming back to the title of this post and the sad fact that Asthma is 100% hereditary, it breaks my heart to also know that more and more children are born inheriting this condition from their parents and the percentage/statistics are staggering and unbelievable. It really saddens me to know that a great number of children will never have pets in their entire life. The irony is that, everything around us could be an allergen and every person may have different reactions to certain allergen.

Studies are being done right now in such a way that high dosages of allergens are introduced to atopic individuals in hope that their bodies would build natural antibodies against them but sadly, these studies has proven futile. There is no strong evidences that the condition is reversible. In this world that has already lost all LOVE, I do not think it is fair that our future generations will never ever have the chance to keep little critters in their lives.

So off I went home to clean up that little bunny run that has been filled with wood shavings. While cleaning, I realize how I can’t live without these little critters and I hope all of us will be able to enjoy what we truly love in life.

I wish all of you well and hope that your allergies are not pet related.

Here are some photos taken of the clean bunny run (sorry for the quality, I can’t find my camera!).

Confusing Black & White World

We brought Skor to visit one of our dear friends and his children – Tridus, Tinga and Truffles. Truffles and Bugsy are boarding over with D & TJ. That’s the amazing thing about having bunny friends. Traveling couldn’t be much easier without friends to look after our furkids.

Truffles and Bugsy’s owners are out of town celebrating Eid with their families. I was suppose to take them in for boarding but had some last minute changes and they ended up with D and TJ. Since we can’t have them over for boarding, we decided to drop by their house for a little gathering.

I was looking forward to putting Skor with his two sons together for a little family portrait.

The Terror Shaver!

I used to help my wife groom our 2 dogs and we did buy the tools need for grooming. Till today, we still have the shaver and I thought of making good use of it. I have been putting this on hold for quite a long time. So today, I spent almost 2 hours grooming just one bunny. How did I decide who to give a shave? Well…

Thunder is having a major molt and I thought of helping him out. So I wrapped myself up and started cutting away!

On the other hand, it has proven that temperature does affect fertility in buck and by shaving him clean, I hope to experiment if it helps with fertility. I guess with a few ounces lighter, Thunder would be able to “perform” better with the does. LOL!

Let’s allow the photos to do all the talking. I was going for the lamb cut but somehow it didn’t turn out like how I expected.

Grooming a rabbit is harder than I thought. And the amount of fur was a much as that of 4 little dogs. Will I do it again? Absolutely! It was fun and it should be nice if I could even things out!

Long Weekend Chillax

Here wishing every Malaysian a Happy Independence Day! We are indeed 52 years old. Hope we get ever wiser and advance full steam ahead!

As for the bunnies, they took turns to frolick and play in the run. They get full days running on weekends. This weekend everyone got to run since it was a long one.

Here are some photos to share. My photos are getting rather boring since it is always in the same position – LOL!

Farewell TLR’s 1st BRIS, TRU-LUV Truffles

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this post. At the same time I am very excited for Truffles’ new owners. This couple has been contacting me for quite some time and I felt that it would be nice for them to have Truffles since I do not have many bunnies available at the moment. I am very glad that the lovely couple inquired and I must say that with great confidence, I am very happy to be passing Truffles into their care.

So tonight for a little farewell, I made Truffles pose for me. Anyway, he’ll come back once in a while for boarding so I won’t miss him too much.

Seemed like it was yesterday that Truffles came into this world. I could remember very clearly that he was the only one left from a litter of 3 born to Holly Hope. He was such a cutie back then and I knew he had quite thick bones. I could still recall how he nearly fell into wrong hands.

Let’s walk down memory to reminisce the time when this little boy was born.

I also check through the surgery area and found that the swelling has subsided. Here are 2 photos for comparison:

Great Bunday

The day before yesterday was a good Bunday. yesterday was a good Bunday and today is another good Bunday. I have to admit, everyday’s a good Bunday in Meadow Haven.

First thing on the list today was Truffles. I brought him in for castration at approximately 1.30 pm. Just like Noobie, I couldn’t help but to feel a little worried. But the moment I saw Dr. Loh, I was relieved. Somehow the vets at Hillpark always set my heart at ease. My wife and I was a little tickled by the fact that we’re sending our BRIS bunny for castration. Shouldn’t he be a stud back at Meadow Haven? Well, let’s put it this way, I strongly believe that there will be more BRIS or even BIS to come from TLR.

Hugging the little "teddy" in the car

Approximately 30 mins after dropping Truffles off at the vets, I received a call from the clinic. My heart sank a little because that was too fast for a surgery and I have not even started cleaning 1 cage in the rabbitry. To my relieved, I was told that the surgery went well and Truffles was ready to go home. So off I went.

The locals call this "mengeram telur" (incubating egg)

On the way back from the vets, I found this wonderful shop that sells a lot of nice ornaments. I was previously looking for a door bell. And guess what I found! This made my home complete:

7.2 lbs Holland Lop!?

The standard calls for Holland Lops to be 4 lbs (MAXIMUM) and that’s approximately 1.8 kgs. And look what I found out about the Rabbit Hill’s Skor.

A Whooping 7.2 lbs!!!

A Whooping 7.2 lbs!!!

The scale showed 3.25 kgs! My eyes nearly popped out their sockets!

I was so attracted to the way Skor was posing that I forgotten that someone tweaked my scale. After a quick adjustment, I got the right figure. He weighs almost 1.9 kgs or 4.2 lbs. just 0.2 over the standard.

That's 1.9 kg. What a relief!

That's 1.9 kg. What a relief!

With the does, breeders usually do not mind if there are big and ugly. Brood does come in many shapes and sizes. It made me wonder sometimes if there is such thing as a “brood” quality buck. I dare say now that my question has been answered. If we need those normal and big does to avoid getting peanuts, I believe normal/false dwarf bucks could be used with true dwarf does to help us get true dwarfs and at the same time avoid getting peanuts.

Skor is a very chunky huggable bunny. You’ll be tempted to give him a good squeeze if you see him. Don’t all Hollands make you feel the same?

Have a nice Sunday everyone!

A Tribute To Benji

A few days back, I received a text message from Hun regarding her 10 year old rabbit Benji. Apparently, Benji has since developed cataract on both eyes.

What amazes me most if that Benji wasn’t on very special diet. He has been on the locally milled pellets and constantly having fresh veges in his diet. Whatever it is, to be able to live 10 years for a rabbit goes to show that his owner must be doing something very right. Benji is an in tact buck that isn’t neutered. These photos show that Benji still have very nice fur condition.

Isn't he handsome?

The Rise Of The Singleton!

I am still very  dazed from the exciting weekend. Since the show, the blog stats has skyrocketed. I am receiving so many congratulatory text messages and emails . Thank you everyone for your kind words. The inquiries for my rabbits has skyrocketed as well. Please know that I am still the same old guy that does not bite. The sales policy stands but I have nothing to offer at the moment. Sorry for that shortcomings. Am really glad that I am finally seeing some fruits of my labor after 2 years (since 2006). I don’t mean the number of sales but the knowledge and awareness of this breed is finally growing.

Truffles is back to his old self. Being a mischieve like the usual. Begging for food this morning and I just love his cute face!

I just realized that he was a singleton and his mom Holly Hope was also a singleton. It is not easy raising singletons but it is very fulfilling! I never imagine getting even a ribbon before this but miracles do happen sometimes. I am proud that Truffles is from my own breeding and it was really fun having this little guy! Just like to post on his development so far with some past photos:
