Rabbit Owners, Mobilize & Get Ready To Roll Out!

We are in the midst of starting up Malaysia Rabbit Owners Club (MROC – pronounced as M Rock!). The first step is to hold a meeting of at least 7 members to form a committee. The poll has indicated we do have enough numbers. Details will be disclosed at later point of time. For those who are interested, please email your name, address and contact numbers to Ms. Felicity at felicity_junlyn@yahoo.com or myself Mr. Tim at truluvrabbitry@gmail.com.

The initial objectives of the club as stated in the polls post would be:

1) The club acts as a central repository for all rabbit owners in Malaysia. This would be a central point of reference for those interested in keeping rabbits as pets. New owners will be able to contact breeders and learn more before getting their new pets.

2) Organize shows that caters for all target group.

3) The club’s main objective should be to educate the general public and ensure the well being of rabbits in Malaysia. The club will also promote responsible pet rabbit ownership and emphasis will be given to help control rabbit population through education on benefits of neutering pets.

These are just some of the suggested club objectives and more will be added before the first meeting will be held to finalize our objectives that are needed to form the club.

Again, for those who are interested to help, please get in touch with Ms. Felicity or myself.

The email addresses to remember are:

1) Ms. Felicity (felicity_junlyn@yahoo.com)

2) Mr. Tim (truluvrabbitry@gmail.com)

11th Hour

I just done watching this fantastic documentary which in my opinion is a good sequel to its equivalent The Inconvenient Truth. If you have not watched it, make sure you catch it on HBO in the next few days.

To summarize the entire documentary, a quote kept on coming on my mind. If you have been to enough church weddings you might have heard the quote that goes “Faith, Hope & Love, and the greatest of these is LOVE”. One of the last professors gave a very good summary of the entire documentary by mentioning what earth need most now is LOVE.

It simply means that we must start loving earth and not materialism. Each time we spend our money buying something, use LOVE to tap into our suffering earth to ensure we purchase what we truly need only.

As I am still very much inspired by this documentary, I thought of things to do in the rabbitry that could contribute to saving mother earth. The clearest message is to reduce, reuse and recycle. Here is the list based on these 3 headings:

1. Reduce

– neutering rabbits does help in keeping the number of rabbits on earth checked therefore, it does make some sense to neuter

– feed food that promote higher absorption so less poop produced?

2. Reuse

–  I am looking at making DIY compost. And to begin with, here are some links I found:

– using old newspaper to line bottom trays

– continue making DIY toys using Hay & toilet roll

I prefer to cut a narrow strip of toilet roll and stuff the hay in

I prefer to cut a narrow strip of toilet roll and stuff the hay in

3. Recycle

– use only recycled litter materials like BREEDER CELECT

– maybe try to make pillow out of all the fur shed during molting season?

With this good documentary, US has just taken the lead in being humble to admit that they are contributing to global warming. I take my hats off them for doing so but this is not any particular country’s problem. It is a global problem and that means each and everyone of us are responsible to do something about it.

I believe that leaders around the world must devise strategies. Strategies on the individual level and up to the community level at large. That means, we need strategies so we can make efforts on individual capacity as well as joint efforts by smaller communities right up to the country level and lastly, a global effort.

Let’s join hands in this for our future generation.

Earth Hour: Switch Off Your Lights!

Let’s switch off all the lights in your house in unison just for 1 hour. The earth is in dire need of conservation. Let us all do our small parts to make it a big contribution back to mother nature. If we could do this on our own effort once a day, a week, or a month, although a small tiny contribution will impact the world in the long run. So when do we switch those lights off?

Date: Saturday, March 28, 2009
Time: 8:30pm – 9:30pm

Wherever you are, let’s do it for our EARTH! Just that 60 minutes without lights!

Let’s get the club going!!!

Just want to thank Ken for inspiring me on this. Thanks for reading my posts and reaching out to me in this treacherous journey fighting for the cause of Quality. You are right that it will be hard to fight alone and suggested a club to be filled with people who are passionate and enthusiastic about RABBITS!

I didn’t know my posts for the past few days sounded depressing but it is true. I was unhappy until I figured out the new Sales Policy. Right after posting it, I was so relieved as I have found a long term solution best for TLR, the breed and the community at large. Thanks to Ken again for his wonderful sharing. He is also making a difference and also making waves in the CAT industry. One of the best Maine Coon breeders in Malaysia. Check his work out at http://ice-coon.com/. You can see almost the entire policy is an adaptation from this website. I met Ken through Alicia of Pet Epicure. Great peeps!

Here goes, the club will not be a success without you PASSIONATE & ENTHUSIASTIC people. A club need not to be registered. Let’s start taking baby steps so we can start running soon.

Please join this Facebook group. We shall organize some stuff to enjoy the company and bunnies. Who knows we might even start a little show for all rabbits regardless of pure or mixed breeds.

A new Sales Policy

After much considerations, I have review the previous policies and found there was a lot of room for improvements. And in-line with the general public’s behaviour observed thus far, it was concluded that spaying and neutering is the only way to go similarly as to how they should deal with serial rapists as well.

Basically, TLR will be feeding your rabbit till he/she is 6 months old, send it for spaying/neutering before delivering to you. If you don’t buy that, I don’t know what you will…

So please go through the new sales policy and let me know if I have the support of all Malaysians. Let us gear towards a market filled with Quality Holland Lops!

Abandoned Rabbit?

A fellow forum member just found a lop ear rabbit “abandoned” in residential area. It is really heart wrenching to know of such situations.

Many months back, I read about people abandoning their unwanted grown up rabbits in the jungle. But nothing can be worst than abandoning a rabbit in the concrete jungle. Just thinking about the rabbit getting run over by a car is just devastating.

I believe notices might have been placed and if the owner do not come forward to reclaim the rabbit, it may be put up for adoption.

This is just the thing that I dread personally and exactly the reason why all breeders should be hold accountable for. Please stop churning out rabbits that might be abandoned!

It always backfire!

I am been writing a lot about Holland Lops and I really mean A LOT!

But somehow I am so surprised that many locals are still going for second best. It seemed as if the more I write, the poorer the quality of rabbits in the local market becomes.  They have seen photos, they have seen videos, and most of all, they should have also seen the numerous websites which I have linked to.

Do they not know how a Holland Lop should look like? Do they not know how to demand for quality?

I have many silent readers and I am sure some people in the pet industry are also reading this. Are they passing off sub standard rabbits as Holland Lops in order to “mimmick” the ones on my blog?

This whole world is filled with fakes and even our local music industry emphasizes on buying the original.

But then again, many people love fake stuff and the best part is, they would love to be treated as people buying the originals i.e. demand for an exchange for the little fault they get. LOL!

Do not patronize fakes and the unoriginal. Demand for only 8 weeks old rabbit with quality. Quality can be very visible unless you are blind!

Rabbit for Adoption at PAWS

Dear Malaysia Readers,

Just wanted to highlight that there is a rabbit for ADOPTION in PAWS (animal shelter-click for contact/location information). Little information is known about the rabbit. Do drop by and adopt it if you can. Apparently, the workers at the shelter has been feeding it with leaves for the past 3 days since it was sent to the shelter.

To minimize unwanted pets please please please, I beg all of you to breed responsibly and please be responsible pet owners. Most importantly, DO NOT BUY ON IMPULSE.

I was hoping that I will never need to write adoption posts but my worst fear is slowly materializing. But nonetheless, I felt obligated to help the little bunny out.
