Genesis

The long wait will finally come to an end in the next couple of days. An ULTRA PREMIUM rabbit food at last! It has been more than a year of extensive research (on the distributor’s part) and Tru-Luv rabbits has been specially selected to try out samples for a couple of months. The results were so extraordinary that not only the rabbits gave their nod in approval, I highly recommend that every rabbit owner in Malaysia use the Genesis Ultra Premium Rabbit Food for their  rabbit(s).

The result is obvious and clearly visible. Smaller poop denotes high absorption, less wastage. Even though less is being consumed, the coat and flesh condition on the rabbits can be seen and felt. The rabbits molt lesser than the usual and those that appear to be going through molting regain their beautiful coat in a shorter time.

There is just too many benefits using this feed for just a couple of months and it is unbelievable that Genesis Ultra Premium Rabbit Food will be made available in Malaysia! Kudos to the distributor for taking this giant leap to provide us with nothing less than ULTRA PREMIUM products!

Product Benefits summary!

Last but not least, Genesis Ultra Premium rabbit food is manufactured through the extrusion process and no wonder it can stay fresh for much longer compared to pelleted rabbit food. That is because cooking the quality ingredients with heat helps to ensure freshness at all time. Conventional pellets tend to go stale and mouldy after a while because of the manufacturing method. This is not the case with Genesis Ultra Premium rabbit food.

The facts has been clearly laid down and to get more updates on availability and how to purchase, please visit the official Genesis Malaysia facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/GenesisPet. Or visit TinyCritterz.com to pre-order today!

We’re Going Ultra!

I am sure most of you know who is Ultraman and if you do not know who or what is Ultraman, please get up to speed by reading about this super hero – here. There are many variances of Ultraman from Ultraman Taro to Ultraman Gaia. Yes, there is a huge Ultraman family if you have been following. Though many different Ultraman, every series that appear only have one thing in common, the BEEP! Most of the Ultraman have a little light on his/her chest. The episode always and usually starts with a monster attacking the city and Ultraman will soon come to the rescue. What cannon cannot kill, Ultraman can by just playing karate!  Sometimes, Ultraman loses his energy and the light on the chest would blink and BEEP! as a sign of weakness. The fight will always end up with Ultraman summoning all his energy for a finishing move either through a Spacium Ray or an Ultra Slash!

I am sure that brings back a lot of childhood memories but there are two folds as to what I would like to write about today. Firstly, I would like to focus on the word Ultra which I believe denotes the highest level of goodness. Before I elaborate more on the word Ultra, please allow me to digress. We are indeed in the BEEP! situation as far as the varieties of good rabbit food is concerned. Therefore, we summoned all our energy and effort in bringing only the BEST OF THE BEST into Malaysia. I personally is fed up firstly with inconsistent stocks and most disgustingly, those that does not have the least passion for our pet rabbits. The outcome – brands that appear and disappear on the shelves like Chipsmore cookies and people who deny our rabbits of their rightful basic needs.

Tru-Luv Rabbitry’s long presence clearly shows that I (or we) are dead serious about the welfare of our rabbits. I am committed to my rabbits by providing them only the best. We know that there are many brands of rabbit food in the market and often find ourselves asking the question – WHICH ONE TO BUY?

I understand that not everyone bothers to go through the ingredients and know exactly what the rabbit food is made of but instead depend very much on word of mouth and “recommendations”. Since ingredients and scientific facts are not our forte, I would like to just distinguish and categorize to make things simple. I believe the scientific facts will be laid down in due time.

Pet Owner or Breeder?

Pet owners love their pets to bit and pieces and always want the best for their furry buddies. The number of animals kept are less than 5 at a time and most of the time, the BEST is well affordable.

Breeders in Malaysia have anywhere from 20 to 300 (farm) animals at a time and that will bring us to the next question.

Commercial or Pet Market?

I can only give the commercial the following formula:-

Low Investment = High Profit

or

Minimum Input = Maximum Output

Let me share with you my observation at the moment and see if it makes sense to you. Most of the rabbit food available in the market at the moment is formulated for the purpose of meeting merely what the rabbit needs so that it can survive to reproduce more. Most of these are used for meat and they do not need to live for a long time as they are slaughtered after reaching a certain age. Therefore, farmers could not care less what are the ingredients used to produce these rabbit food. Some may even include additives so that the rabbits gobble up as much as they can just to gain enough weight to be slaughtered.

On the other hand, rabbit food specially formulated for pets not only provide nutritional needs but enhances the lives of our beloved pets so that they live a long and healthy life. If having a healthy rabbit living a long life is not what you intend to have, then I am not sure why you are keeping a pet to begin with. Therefore, I assume all of us are pet lovers and want the best for our pets. Although the price maybe a little steep, we need to take a step back and understand the reason behind it. Certain rabbit food maybe a little higher in price but the AMOUNT TO FEED is lesser than other rabbit food. In the long run rabbit owners save more! Also, we have to take into consideration the QUALITY of the ingredients used to prepare the rabbit food.

What I find disturbing at the moment is that, the prices of commercial rabbit food formulated for farm animals are selling at a higher price compared to rabbit food formulated for pets!

In the next few days, an ULTRA PREMIUM rabbit food will be unleashed and to be honest, all Tru-Luv rabbits has been anxiously waiting for this after having a couple of months of sample supplies.

I am taking the lead by taking the LEAP, what about you?

About Pet Epicure

I have written about Pet Epicure in the past but when it comes to this cosy little pet boutique (actually more than that), I have so much to write about it but just do not know where to start. The people at Pet Epicure are very passionate with what they do for the welfare of animals. Pet Epicure is mostly a cat/pet boarding facility but one will find many cats being put up for adoption as well. They are very kind hearted and can never turn down a cat (any cat for the matter). Most of what I learned about responsible pet ownership and breeding comes from Pet Epicure. They have inspired me to promote neutering to all my pet Holland Lop buyers. Pet Epicure carries a wide range of pet products including those for small animals. I would like to thank everyone at Pet Epicure for carrying TinyCritterz’ 1kg Timothy Hay and I hope rabbit owners in that area will be able to have access to good Timothy Hay!

Petaling Jaya

About Perniagaan Jumbo

Perniagaan Jumbo has been around for almost 30 years. Nestled in the middle of the Kelana Jaya housing area, this friendly pet shop is famous among pet lovers in the surrounding neighborhood. This is the pet shop that I first learned about Hamsters 24 years ago (when I was only 7 years old). Being an animal lover, I spent most of my weekends coming to this shop and sometimes assisting in its daily operations just for fun. I always find pleasure in chatting with both Uncle Cheah & his wife. Since three years ago, the business has  been passed on and now operated by close relatives and Perniagaan Jumbo is as welcoming as before. I am always happy spending time in this pet shop and each visit will last more than an hour. It brings back a lot of wonderful childhood memories. Back then, Kelana Jaya has not been so developed and we did not even have the Giant Hypermarket. Through the years, Perniagaan Jumbo stands the test of time and has earned a place in the hearts of those in the neighbourhood. I am so happy that Mr. Cheah agreed to carry TinyCritterz’ 1kg Timothy Hay at his shop so that it is easily accessible to all rabbit lovers in the neighbourhood.  Below is the location based on Google Maps:-

Staple Food & Conditioning Mix

It saddens me very much that after 3 years of relentless efforts by a group of us to promote good rabbit diet through the internet, “business” seemed to ruin it for us.

Here I was walking down the aisle of the major Pet Store in Klang Valley and suddenly, my browsing pleasure was interrupted by the sales assistant who was sitting on the floor tagging prices on some rabbit food. She said, “Try this brand, it is what I use and my rabbits love it”. On closer inspection, I can only make out one word – JUNK!

This brand of rabbit food seemed to be a big hit among the local rabbit owners. And the best part is, the pellets come in 2 colors – green and orange. The green suppose to denote certain vegetable and the orange as you can guess, denotes carrots. Time and time again, we are sending very clear message to the general public that CARROTS are NOT suppose to be the staple diet of rabbits. And to top it all off, when I turn the package to the back to scrutinize the ingredients further, CORN was listed as one of the major part of the rabbit food. Corn is a major NO in a rabbit’s diet because it is extremely fattening. And usually, when ingredients like these are listed as the first few ingredients, their portions are normally above desired amount. What we need to lookout for are ingredients such as Alfalfa Meal or Timothy Hay/Meal.

Sometimes I really do not blame ignorant customers for buying these junk foodstuff for their pets. They are after all, in the mercy of what the sales assistants promote to them. And what sales assistants do best? SELL!

I told the sales assistant off, “This is junk food, good luck with your rabbits”. Well, in my heart, I wouldn’t expect more from this pet store and its chains because people at the top are ignorant too. Things will never change as long as the money rolls in continuously. Although many pet store names suggest that they care a whole lots about your pets, more often then not, they DO NOT and all they care about is money off your pockets!

As I walk further down the aisle, I was again shocked by another product that they were carrying. It was filled with seeds of all kinds and dried fruits. They are selling these as staple food. It is so disheartening to know that they can’t even separate staple food from conditioning mix.

Let me tell you what conditioning mix is. Whenever you do not see green pellets and alfalfa/timothy hay as one of the ingredients, more often than not, the product is a form of conditioning mix. Most obvious when they are made up of different seeds like sunflower seeds, black oil sunflower seeds, oats, wheat, dried banana, dried papaya and etc.

So when you see a packet of mixed seeds with little or no pellets, be positive that this is not staple food for your bunny. Besides, the real staple food for a bunny is hay. Pellets are just fillers to keep their stomach filled.

Why do we need conditioning mix? Rabbit pellets are suppose to consist all the nutrients a rabbit needs to thrive. By right, a rabbit do not need anything extra besides the pellets. True – but if you can be absolutely sure that the pellets are fresh as in they are longer than 3 months out of the mills. As time goes by, pellets like any other food stuff loses its nutritional values. Conditioning mix are usually used to make up for all nutrients that has been lost or to give some extra shine to the rabbit’s coat.

There are many types of conditioning mix used by breeders especially show breeders and they even make their own. The question is, do we need them? I believe in moderation. I have friends who feed their rabbits raisins and some other treats once in a while. Of course it is permitted and conditioning mix can be used similarly as treats.

Now I hope you know what staple food is and what conditioning mix is all about.
