Happier Times Are Spent With My Bunnies

I took some photos of the kits this morning before my mood swing 360 degrees the opposite way. Can you imagine waiting 4 hours in a bank just to open a new savings account? I am not even talking about any ordinary bank. This bank has been the top bank in Malaysia for several years now. I am totally disappointed and to top it off, I was served by a rude teller. I generally hate sitting in the bank for too long not because I have tons of monies but the risk of getting caught in the middle of a robbery is much higher. I prefer to spend not more than 10 minutes being inside a bank. But today was the worst experience that I ever had with this bank. I took my number at the queue system and went off for lunch and had to wait another 40 minutes to be served by the customer service upon returning. And the actual work of opening an account is done by the teller. Talking about bureaucracy!

And you’ll be surprised that this bank used to talk about under 2 minutes waiting time. Now it took 4 hours!?

The only person I could give credit to is my daughter Beth. It was way way over her nap time and she was trying very hard not to throw a fit. My wife and I almost went into a fit. Outrageous!!!

I could have written 4 posts in that 4 hours of waiting.

I better not be going anywhere near the rabbits because they would feel how frustrated I am.

Sorry for the ranting. Here’s some photos to brighten up your day if you are like me, spent 4 hours in the bank this morning.

Tru-Luv Truffles @ Day 15

I definitely have not forgotten Truffles. I was just waiting for the right opportunity to capture the cutest moments. And I found this little fellow sleeping upside down in the nest box. It is just so tickling to watch them at this stage.

Dark chocolate with milk in bowl anyone?

Yummy!

BlueBerry is living at my dining hall and she has got such a big space to roam. I let her out this morning for her usual run. It is nice to see her exploring.

The diversity of Holland Lop genetics

For those that have done extensive research on the Holland Lop, you will know that English Lops and Netherland Dwarfs was the 2 breeds used initially to get what we have today.

The Angora was also introduced to help get the fur texture desired. And to get the broken patterns, it was said that the English Spots were used and I believe that this is very true based on what I could see in one of Noobie’s kits.

So as you can see, the genetic make up Holland Lops is by nature very diversified and that gives us more reason not to mix breed them further. So many years and effort has been put into developing what we have today. I do not think it will do them justice if they are cross bred without good reasons.

If you need to know what an English Spot looks like, please google for it and you will see similarities between them and Noobie’s broken black kit.

And since it is the season to be talking about PROSPERITY, check this one out. If this is not prosperity I do not know what is.

*P/S: We in Malaysia always relate a big tummy of a man to prosperity maybe because the god of prosperity is a plump fellow. LOL! And he happened to have a long moustache too! ROFL!

Happy Lunar New Year!

To all our readers celebrating this auspicious occasion, have yourselves a jolly and happy new year. May the year of the Ox bring you abundance & prosperity.

May all nest boxes be filled to the brim!

As we celebrate with eating ourselves broke this year, let us remember all those oppressed & suffering hunger. We remember the poor and struck down by terminal illnesses. We pray that they may be bless in their times of trials and tribulations!

Let’s be grateful & thankful for our less than perfect lives!

Don’t these photos look familiar. When Holly Hope was a singleton herself, Noobie cuddled her. Now Hope’s doing the same thing for Truffles. Truffles don’t like living in the nest box anymore and it is good for it to be out of the nest box walking all around.

Road To Revamp

Meadow Haven will have a a face-lift soon. Thanks to the help of PetShack, I was able to obtain materials that I needed namely cages and shelves. So this holiday I’ll be spending time tearing down the magnificient Meadow Haven Version 1.0 and put up the new Meadow Haven.

It is crazy to be spending so much during this time of trial and tribulation but it is inevitable. I need more space to facilitate in cleaning the entire rabbitry. But anyhow, life must go on. I am not feeling too happy right now so I will stop here and share some photos.

Tru-Luv Truffles: Day 10 & Other stories

In conjunction with receiving my ARBA membership card, I have also got myself an apron for my future grooming session. I must say it was rather kinky to be wearing an apron with bears on it. How I wish they were rabbit prints. Maybe I should get a plain apron and print TLR logo on it. It would be cute!

Anyhow, here’s how I look like wearing it.

img_0026

I didn’t want to join ARBA at first because I felt it was irrelevant since we do not have shows here and I am not an American Breeder. But I realized that I was breeding imports from America so I should be a member too. Furthermore, I could get more news about the ongoing in US and keep abreast with the latest information in the rabbit world.

So I am happy to be a member of both the HLRSC and ARBA now.

Tru-Luv Truffles: Day 9

Before I start posting photos of Truffles, I just want to spend a little time to share what I have learned about the purpose of breeding (again!). Yeah, I know everyone’s talking about making sure you breed for quality. We must breed to achieve a goal that is to produce rabbits that exceeds the STANDARD OF PERFECTION laid down by ARBA. So what it takes in between the starting line and the ultimate victory?

For the past few weeks, two words kept on coming onto my mind. CULL HARD. Do you know that when the competition gets really serious. Breeders will start to cull their rabbits. Not many are petted out because unlike commercial breeders that sees every rabbit as an opportunity to MAKE PROFIT, a show breeder feels that the more pets he/she sends out, the more diluted the market becomes.

The common methods of culling would be to send rabbits to reptile farms, snake farms or raptor farms. I was not able to accept these methods at first but after thinking it through, I felt that it does give a purpose to raising rabbits. To be honest, I rather have my rabbits humanely put down then to have some airheads experimenting with breeding. What I hate most is the mentality of people thinking that rabbits are profitable. I still cannot see how it is profitable unless costs are cut in the form of feed.

I believe that a good show breeder will always cull their rabbits. It is much better than having abandoned rabbits. Keeping every single pet quality rabbit is not the solution and dumping all of them in a common area is definitely not a good idea as well.

Here’s Truffles:

Tru-Luv Truffles: Day 8

I found myself not writing much these days because I just cannot differentiate between night and day anymore. My chatting friends are mostly Americans and I usually stay up pretty late to have bunny chats or should I say bunny gossips. It is so nice to chat with them especially those that are so willing to share their knowledge with you.

I am so happy to have found so many Holland Lop breeder friends and they have been so supportive. My world is so much brighter having these friends around the globe. At least I do not sound like a mad person talking about rabbits all the time.

I really really love HOLLAND LOPS! I think it is the only true rabbit breed in the world. LOL!

Oops, I am so sorry, this post is suppose to be Truffles’ post. I have only not seen it for a day and she has grown so much. Its fur has thickened. I missed on nice photo of Holly Hope nursing last night because the camera automatically placed the photos into another folder.

Tru-Luv Truffles: Day 7!!! Woohoo 1 week old!!!

Just a blink of an eye, it’s been a week already. This little black and white furball is getting cuter by the days. Today a little small piece of hay went into its nose and made it sneezed and hacked. I got a little scare wondering what happened. After pulling off the the piece of hay, this little fellow cuddled up in my palm.

img_9983img_9985img_9984img_9983I caught photos of Holly Hope nursing the little one. It is no coincidence that I was able to capture this video. Bear in mind rabbits in the wild will run far away from their nests when predators are nearby. Why isn’t Holly Hope running away from me? That’s because she knows me too well. I have been cuddling her the moment she was born.

That is the wonder of individual attention given to the rabbits. They treat you like their family too. She is such a great mommy. You’ll notice that she has been pulling her fur from her thigh and now it is bald. Talking about motherly LOVE, even a small animals such as these can show unconditional love. It is really surprising why mankind with better brains can’t.
