The Fox & the Bunny Grapes (Politically Correct)

I read a lot thanks to my parents for instilling that trait in me. It was because of them that I can write well enough in English so that most reading will be able to understand. One of my all time favorite book was Aesop’s Fables. I must say that most of the values I practice in life pretty much came from Aesop’s Fables.

As a continuation to yesterday’s rambling, which I was giving much thought as I try to reason out the situation, a fable came to my mind. It is called The Fox & The Grapes. I believe that this is the fable where the English idiom “sour grapes” came from.

I believe strongly that most adults these days did not have the chance to read Aesop’s Fables. Even if they do read it, the unkind world must have drown the good moral values in them. The story is self-explanatory.

Original illustration source unknown but was taken from http://beribiru.net/?p=13. I added a bunch of bunny grapes!

The following is taken from Wikipedia.org with a little “twist” modification :

One hot summer’s day a Fox was strolling through an orchard till he came to a bunch of Bunny Grapes just ripening on a vine which had been trained over a lofty branch. “Just the thing to quench my thirst,” quoth he. Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch. Turning round again with a One, Two, Three, he jumped up, but with no greater success. Again and again he tried after the tempting morsel, but at last had to give it up, and walked away with his nose in the air, saying: “I am sure they are sour.”

It is easy to despise what you cannot get.

What Would You Do?

Business must be really bad for the other sides. I recently posted an ad with a so called “premier” pet placement portal. Its entire setup shouts “A Loving Home For Every Pet”. I am starting to think otherwise because every tom, dick and harry has an account in it with the mixture of ethical breeders, unethical breeders and a lot of wolves under sheep skins.

Boy did my ad got slandered. One commented that I was arrogant and have no respect for rabbit lovers. I found that amusing coming from the same person that text/sms me one day to buy a rabbit. That is what you get for saying NO!

Another one wrote about how it is the nature of the business of Tru-Luv Rabbitry to gain “repeat sales” by neutering animals so that there would not be competition. How shallow is that right?

Very obvious reason that these people are pet breeders. If it is that hard to ask, come forward and show me some pedigrees as prove that you are working with purebreds and do share with me your objective breeding the rabbits. I will be very much willing to share and improve for the betterment of the breed generally. Let’s talk facts and not cowardice crap talk behind a facade(nickname). No, these breeders will shoot at point blank and it really amazes me.

This person claims to have 25 years experience in raising rabbits and he is 47 years old. Boy do I feel that he missed out a decimal point on his age. He sounded more like a 4.7 years old baby. Alright, enough of personal attacks as I am not going to that level. 25 years of experience raising rabbits but do not even have 1 pedigreed rabbit. That in itself is amazing…

Where shall I begin? Holland Lops, its history traces back more than 20 years ago. Hundreds of breeders worked hard throughout those years to get what we have today. The promise I make to myself (at the least), uphold the purity of the breed and always work towards improving it (health, temperament and overall physical vigor).

Pet breeders, I just don’t know where to start. Alright, comments like “People can enjoy the excitement of new born rabbit, if the rabbit is not neuter or spay” is really self explanatory and I need not explain further. He did not even get his terms right. Neuter is a general term used for both castration(male) and spay(female). To me, regular pet breeders have pretty much the same libido as their pets. Sure, people can enjoy the excitement of anything new born.

Yes, it is a technique not a business tactic cause once again, this is NOT a business. It is a technique to keep my rabbits away from pet breeders who knows close to nothing about what breeding is all about except for making sure 2 rabbits put together is a buck and a doe. Again, I cannot stress enough this is a HOBBY. A hobby that needs to be balanced up well. I am so tired of writing the same thing over and over again. I have lost hope in “new born excitable” people!

For the many things these people have done wrong, I must have at least done something RIGHT. Being appreciated by the media, I must be doing something very RIGHT. Is there anything else that I need to do to justify further?

Nonetheless, their actions are indicators telling me that they are envious, jealous or perhaps feeling the pinch from a more educated public. Their business is indeed bleeding I must say? I challenge them to bleed their business to death by enforcing the neutering policy.

Why blame me? Because I have far more superior stocks? Because I have a different way of sharing my stocks? Because they can’t get nice stocks?

To each his/her own. If you can’t afford it, click on the adopt button, less hassle compared to writing crap comments.

Now you tell me, what would you do?

Taking Orders Now!

Dear Bunny Lovers (I presume you did not stumble across my blog by accident),

I am currently planning out for a shipment of rabbits scheduled in March/April 2o1o. I have put much thoughts into this and felt that it would be the best for the rabbit community in Malaysia at large. Most of you have expressed interest in owning fully imported rabbits and this could be the best arrangement to help everyone out!

Most of you are not willing to pay (of course!) but at the same time want imported qualities and also only 1 or 2 rabbits (to try out). So the best thing to do now, is for us share out the shipping cost.

Advantages include:

1. You get cheaper rates compared to shipping alone in small amount

2. Quality & health will be assured as we will help source out with your interest on mind

3. No more outrageous rules & regulations imposed by breeders i.e. only MALES available

4. No more outrageous prices for sub standard rabbits

5. Reliable sources

6. Delivery to your doorstep (Klang Valley)

Procedures:

1. Email me truluvrabbitry@gmail.com (serious inquiries only!)

2. Agree upon budget

3. Sign an agreement (ship at own risk)

4. Pay the amount agreed upon

5. I will source and show photos of rabbits picked

6. You agree on rabbits

7. I get them shipped and deliver them to you!

Disclaimer clause(s):

1. Ship at your own risk

2. Qualities of rabbits commensurate with prices! We work on the “PAY PEANUTS GET MONKEY” basis!

3. Prices of rabbits commensurate with the DISTANCE needed to TRAVEL too!

4. We can help source for good OTHER breeds (i.e.  Netherland Dwarfs, Lionhead, American Fuzzy Lops, Jersey Woollies, Mini Satin, Mini Rex, Californian & etc) too!

5. We can arrange for shipping to countries outside of Malaysia too! Foreign friends please email me!

Now, let’s flood me with emails and more importantly, let’s get GOOD STUFF!

*P.S.: PLEASE EMAIL ME!!! I WILL NOT ENTERTAIN COMMENTS ON THIS POST!

Brushed Bunnies: The Chinese Brush Painting

If the human genetics is as simple as rabbit genetics, I believe both my parents have each contributed half their creativity gene to me. I attribute all the crazy ideas I get while raising Holland Lops from my dad’s artistic traits. As for the problem solving skills, I believe that trait came from my mom. She is a pure innovator I tell you.

My dad paints during his free time. Now he is enjoying his retirement doing what he loves most and to be very specific, Chinese Brush Painting. As our culture slowly fades away, so is the appreciation for the Chinese Brush Painting. I must admit that I draw superheroes using pencils and never the brush. It is something that I just couldn’t inherit but I do hope my daughter would be able to pick up the skill.

Though painting is just a hobby, my dad has many proud moments in his passion too. He had a few exhibitions in his younger days and his art works appeared on many major dailies. You will most probably see his works during the Lunar New Year. He fills the newspapers with colorful paintings of the year’s zodiac. During the year of the Dog, he drew pedigreed dogs such as Golden Retriever, Boxer and Poodles!

Last year, during the year of the rat, he painted a piece that has got 100 Chinese characters denoting the word rat.

And since we have the rabbit as one of the zodiacs, he painted one with a couple of bunnies too.

While he paints everything with passion, my personal favorite would be his paintings of chickens. His paintings of roosters have a lot of emphasis on the comb. I am particularly drawn to his chicken paintings. Most probably it is because I was born in the year of the Rooster. I find the chicks that he paints rather cute!

He now paints exclusively for people who appreciates his work. Most of the time, he paints in accordance to the needs of the requester. Recently, I was inspired to get some paintings done on the Holland Lops. I pestered him to help me paint a few and the results were marvelous! I kept on reminding him to think of bulldogs while he painted my rabbits.

Many people have approached him to paint their pets as keepsakes. If you need anything of that sort, please do email me. I’ll be more than happy to hook you up with my DAD!

Bollywood at TLR

If you are a fan of hindustan movies, this may offend you. This being the most anticipating mating session ever, I had to photograph each and every action by these 2 stunning actor/actress. But of course, due to explicit contents, some of the photographs has been removed since this blog is children friendly and I try to refrain from posting lewd contents.

Going through the photos just made me laughed hysterically because these 2 buhnies seemed to act like those in Bollywood Hindie Movie. What is interesting in these movies is that, the actors and actresses can tell their love story from mountain tops, in the valley, travel the whole world round and also “underwater” while rolling down the hill, singing and dancing (sometimes dancers will appear from no where) all in one long breath and just within the timeframe of a song. I hope you get what I mean because I was trying to write that line all within one breath too.

Alright, how is that the same with what happened during this most anticipated mating session? Check out the photos!

After mating, they cannot stop chasing each other around the “pillar”. Bollywood actors and actresses are known to dance around the coconut trees!

The Horny Were-rabbit

You know, I am always haunted by images from were-wolf movies especially the one where the man or woman turns into a were wolf with a full moon as the backdrop. Creepy isn’t it?

I was at http://www.calculatorcat.com/moon_phases/phasenow.php today and was very intrigued by how great the computer world has become. The website is able to generate an image of the moon phase according to your computer system time.

As most of you know, I have been waiting for the day Holly Hope mates with Skor. And the wait was rather long and I just couldn’t explain the reason why she is being so reluctant to mate. I once again called upon my dearest mentor Laurie for guidance and she was really kind as usual to share with me a couple of tips. I chose the 2nd tip she suggested and well, I am once again in awe by her accuracy! It is such a waste she has quit this wonderful hobby. She is one of the greatest Holland Lop breeder of all time. The reason for her greatness of course lies in the knowledge that she has got and most importantly, her willingness to share. She is never selfish of her knowledge.

So that being said, I came home today and as my rabbitry sign says, “SMILE WHEN ENTERING”. So I calm myself from the stress of the day, put on a smile and greeted the bunnies. I took Skor out from his cage, placed him on the ground. I then took Holly Hope and placed her on the ground too after checking her vent. It was rather red…

To my great surprise, she went for the humping straight away. And I mean SHE humped Skor. She has been humping Skor all these while but somehow, today I have got a different feeling. Right after she was done humping, she allowed Skor to mount her. And what I saw next literally took my breath away. She LIFTED her bum!

As usual, Skor gave a loud TRIBAL call and the deed was done.

“I am the…Buhninizer, Buhninizer…” – featuring Playboy 4622

I am overjoyed! Finally, Holly Hope has been “de-flowered” and we shall wait for the outcome in another 30 days.

Sorry to end on an anti-climax note, I must say that my worry does not end here, now please pray for smooth delivery everyone!

12th January 2009 is the date to look out for. A new year, a new litter!

Idle Sunday

This will be the single post with the most photos of my herd. I am still trying to cope and figure out what really happened to Latara and I felt that before I loose anymore of them, it is only right for me to take a “family portrait”. None of the rabbits are left out in this photo session.

Just want to thank all who left comments and wishes. Really appreciate it guys & gals.

And to move on, I would like to churn up the little sense of humor that is left in me to present these photos:

While everyone’s asleep:

Guess what Skor’s up to?

Lastly, PEANUT NO MORE! This is little Charl today.

I want to be a HLRSC member!

Since we do not have rabbit shows in Malaysia. I thought it would be fun to be part of the Holland Lop Rabbit Specialty Club in US. It would be nice to keep abreast with the happenings over in the US since they will be sending me 4 issues of Hollander newsletters and I am particularly interested in reading the Official Guidebook too.

I actually registered in April 2008 through their website and paid through paypal. It says that it will take 4 weeks for processing. I guess they are taking a little too long to process my request.

After 4 week, I still have not got any response from them so I decided to email the secretary to check. After a long wait, the secretary mentioned that she did not see my application.

Oh noOOOooooOOooo….

My credit card statement clearly shows that there was a USD25 charged for HLRSC.

That’s quite a sad news for me. But I will continue waiting. Hope they are able to sort it out so that I get those materials as promised.

Grab a bunny chew toy today!!!

My bunny friend SB is selling some partially home made toys for small animals suitable for rabbits. The wood blocks are save, the coloring used are non-toxic food colorings and the rope used is untreated sisal rope safe for chewing and digested.

If you are interested, please do email me and I will get her to contact you. I believe she does not do posting at the moment and if she does, it would be within Malaysia only.
