The Horny Were-rabbit

You know, I am always haunted by images from were-wolf movies especially the one where the man or woman turns into a were wolf with a full moon as the backdrop. Creepy isn’t it?

I was at http://www.calculatorcat.com/moon_phases/phasenow.php today and was very intrigued by how great the computer world has become. The website is able to generate an image of the moon phase according to your computer system time.

As most of you know, I have been waiting for the day Holly Hope mates with Skor. And the wait was rather long and I just couldn’t explain the reason why she is being so reluctant to mate. I once again called upon my dearest mentor Laurie for guidance and she was really kind as usual to share with me a couple of tips. I chose the 2nd tip she suggested and well, I am once again in awe by her accuracy! It is such a waste she has quit this wonderful hobby. She is one of the greatest Holland Lop breeder of all time. The reason for her greatness of course lies in the knowledge that she has got and most importantly, her willingness to share. She is never selfish of her knowledge.

So that being said, I came home today and as my rabbitry sign says, “SMILE WHEN ENTERING”. So I calm myself from the stress of the day, put on a smile and greeted the bunnies. I took Skor out from his cage, placed him on the ground. I then took Holly Hope and placed her on the ground too after checking her vent. It was rather red…

To my great surprise, she went for the humping straight away. And I mean SHE humped Skor. She has been humping Skor all these while but somehow, today I have got a different feeling. Right after she was done humping, she allowed Skor to mount her. And what I saw next literally took my breath away. She LIFTED her bum!

As usual, Skor gave a loud TRIBAL call and the deed was done.

I am overjoyed! Finally, Holly Hope has been “de-flowered” and we shall wait for the outcome in another 30 days.

Sorry to end on an anti-climax note, I must say that my worry does not end here, now please pray for smooth delivery everyone!

12th January 2009 is the date to look out for. A new year, a new litter!

More great news!

Just an update on the abandoned rabbit. It has found a good home!!! Great work Stalkie for rescuing the rabbit and finding him a good home. To his new owner, you’re in for some GREAT bunny FUN! Welcome to the wonderful world of buhnies! I heard one of the first thing they bought was GOOD HAY.

On a lighter note, just thought of putting up a sign at the entrance of Meadow Haven which says “SMILE WHEN ENTERING” to remind me not to bring my worries into the rabbitry. Everyone should practice being happy around their rabbit(s)!

I Like Good News!

A very dear friend of mine from high school who is residing in Melbourne, Australia just told me that his doe Oreo just kindled 5 kits. 1 was a stillborn. That is really good for a 1st time mommy! And to top it off, she actually built a very nice nest.

Jack and his girlfriend Jordan did great by providing both his rabbits with a very nice environment. Just take a look at the posh hutches these spoiled buhnies are living in (don’t forget to imagine the love shack the humans live in too).

Bugsy (the buck) was actually a lost buhny taken in by Jack. Oreo was later bought to be Bugsy’s companion. Oreo reminds me of Charlyz a lot! The first time I saw photos of her, I was shocked and thought Charlyz went down under!

Photos time!

Don’t you think these hutches look so damn good!?

The Reluctant Doe

As I inserted photos onto this post, I kept on thinking of the most appropriate title. I am not trying to make a mockery out of the great Saint just that the word reluctant got stuck on my mind for this little doe that many has grown so fond of.

Yet another post of my favorite girl, Holly Hope. LOL…

img_8745

These buhnies know what good hay is. For the longest time, I have not seen my rabbits munching away on hay the moment I place a handful in their bowl. Skor especially is really fussy with hay and this new pack of hay I have got really got his appetite going.

img_8761

It’s the natural light mind you, that bunch of Timothy Hay is green in color! Love the freshness!

img_8764

This is by far the best pose Holly Hope has given me of her side profile. She is really perfect in my eyes. Don’t you think she look gorgeous?

img_8757

And I have saved the best for last:

img_8770

“O Hope, Hope, wherefore art thou Hope?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love
And I’ll no longer be a Buhninizer.”

This is suppose to be Juliet’s dialogue but I found it more appropriate for Skor. The entire time Hope was out running about, he was just there in his best show pose! I believe a show pose will impress a reluctant doe as much as the judges at ARBA Convention! LOL!!!!!

Free Rabbit? This way please…(ADOPTED)

UPDATE: This rabbit has been ADOPTED!

Hi everyone, remember the recent post about the abandoned lop ear rabbit?

He’s up for adoption. Definitely not a pure bred Holland Lop but sure makes a good pet. Please do not abandon him again if you plan to take him home.

Here’s the url for more information ABANDONED RABBIT FOR ADOPTION. Please contact kklalex@gmail.com.

On a serious note, I sometimes wonder why in the world should I be so kind to help an abandoned rabbit find a new home. It is as if I am helping some other irresponsible people clean up their MESS! And with so much effort helping them, it is as if I am condoning their ruthless and heartless actions. My disappointment also goes out to those idiotic irresponsible breeders that churns out “JUNKS” that has been thrown out and those that are on the way of being “JUNKS”! They do not bother to do some screening but are more interested with those blood-stained cash going into their hands.

And the more kind-hearted people help abandoned rabbits like this, the more these breeders will think that it is OK. IT IS NOT OK!

STOP BUYING FROM IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDERS!

Hate me for being so darn b*tchy about where my rabbits go. I rather be hated than to have any of my rabbits fall into a pair of hands that hurt them!

I believe my true compassion is only for the animal not for all these MONEY MINDED s*ckers!

I am doing this mainly for the rabbits. I do not want to see them flooding the pounds and I will continue to fight this good fight in putting every single one of you out of your sorry business!

BTW, this rabbit look very familiar and my gut feeling tells me that my guess is RIGHT! There is only one place that churns out rabbits that look like this one!

Eager Beaver-Buhny

Found Noobie collecting hay in her mouth this morning. SO EARLY!? She’s not due until 22nd December but that goes to show how she love being a mom.

I am praying really hard for chocolate kits this time or else it would be black & white Christmas this year. LOL!

I am also expecting a few charlies.

Am quite sure there will be a nice nest in the nest box when I get home later. Shall take some photos.

Just can’t wait for the kits to arrive!

I sure hope it is not false pregnancy as she looks a little plump to me…

Rusty Raspberry

I am sure every rabbitry has got an underdog. And my thoughts was with BlueBerry today. I dare say that she is the rabbit with the least photos taken. LOL. She is just not that photogenic to be honest but today, I thought of writing a little post for her.

She is not scheduled for breeding and I will not be breeding her until I find a super short buck to compliment her mid section. I guess she is just going to enjoy being by herself until I find a better buck for her.

She has got a little rusty look on her. It is as if the blue metal has got a little rusty. LOL. Here are some photos to illustrate this magnificent little blue doe called BlueBerry.

What Scares Me The Most?

After encountering so many deaths both in newborn kits and adult rabbits, death is the least of my phobias now. Please do not get me wrong. I still dread death in rabbits and it is something I hate but am able to accept because it is inevitable most of the time.

The scariest thing for me thus far, is being approached by people interested in my rabbits that think that they already know it all. Please do not get me wrong. I respect those that have a good attitude for learning and I must admit that there is still so much more to be learned. I too have much more to learn in this rabbit raising hobby.

I am very afraid of people that are too prideful.

The point I am writing this is that, from the bottom of my heart, I am crying out loud hoping that people for once will understand my good intentions. This blog has exposed my rabbitry to the anonymous cyber world and that really scares me because this entire internet thing is just too superficial.

The internet can work for you and also against you easily. For a breeder that could not care less about the well being of their rabbits, the internet definitely work wonders. It can bring in revenue. Unfortunately, the well being of my rabbits is top priority. At times, I myself do not really understand the reason why I am being so particular but it is just the way I am and I understand that not many people is willing to subscribe to such awkward principles.

It is really hard for me just to let go and just not bother about who takes home my rabbit. There are just too many danger zones.

To name a few, there is a possibility of rabbit farm operators pretending to be interested buyers, backyard breeders who are interested to make a few extra dollars, college students acting as “brokers” earning a few dollars with a change of hand and of course impulse buyers that will soon grow bored of their new found pet.

I have seen too much of these going around and it really scares the crap out of me.

My question to fellow breeders in the US is, do you guys get these a lot or you rather sweep some under the carpet?

Can The Dead Manipulate The Living?

I believe that is something very possible from where I came from. Many cultures in this world believe in the super natural power of the dead and the dead has got great influences in their lives.

But what I am really trying to say is that, should you as a living human being be controlled by objects or should it be the other way around?

Many people keep pets of all sorts and mine happened to be rabbits. Every sane person could see how helpless domesticated pets has become compared to their wild counterparts. And that gives us more reason to take good care of our pets because they rely and depend on us heavily.

I just do not understand sometimes why people tend to provide a domesticated pet an environment closer to their “natural” habitat. Are they trying to make their pets feral?

I can’t seemed to get the point of this when what people take years to domesticate, they tend to reverse the order of things.

For example, I read about people having great experiences raising their rabbits in their backyards or gardens. I have no qualms about that although personally I feel that domesticated rabbits should allowed time in the garden but not living in one all the time. Since most are kept in residential area and there can be too many hazards threatening their lives.

Keeping rabbits in the garden is not the problem but not carefully evaluating the consequences is. I sometimes read about rabbits “escaping” through burrow that they have dug in the garden and I believe to a certain extend, this is a problem. Pets in my opinion, to a certain extend, can be seen as objects with lives of course. They closely relate to objects in the sense whereby they need a being of better judgment to govern over them.

We as the owners are fully responsible for the well being of our pets. We are the higher being with greater judgment. So, when a rabbit burrows through to our neighbor’s lawn, do we say that it is the fault of the rabbit? When our dog poops in front of our neighbor’s compound, do we say bad dog or lousy owner?

But I believe in a land where the dead has got more power than the living, it is most of the time A BAD DOG or A BAD RABBIT because the owner has got a smaller brain compared to the DOG and RABBIT.

How sad and small our brains has shrunk!
